Rep Pyramid - Thursday, November 13, 2003 12:53 AM ( #1 )
Hey...would it be better if i did a certian excersize in a pryamid instead of doing like 12 reps, and 2 sets.

so it would look something like this

12 reps
10 reps
8 reps
6 reps etc.
4 reps etc.
2 reps etc.

It seems like it would be easier and be good for warming up, and i mean going up' from the bottom not down from the top

You should always warm-up a muscle group you haven't used.

I do something very similar to that listed above when I warm-up before I do my heavy sets for Max-OT. All the while increasing the weight as the reps go lower.

Then once I do my set of 3 reps for weight accumulation, I do 2-3 heavy sets and move on.

Not so sure about this kind of pyramid. If you are going from the bottom up.. then 2 reps seems way to low. Especially since you haven't warmed up. So you could be doing a heavy weight but you can't really because you just started. Seems like going from the top down would be a better alternative. Get the blood to the muscle. Get it warm.

My suggestion would be to go top down. Increasing the weight as you go.

going up from the bottom

I think it should be reverse. Start off with the 12 reps to get the muscle warm... then by the time you are at 2 reps.. it's time for the heavy weight.

If you walk in.. do 2 reps of an exercise.. that's not much of a warm-up. And by the time you get to 12 reps.. there's no way you will do your max weight.

I'm thinking top down is best. And heck, if you wanna do volume training then you would do a set of 2 again.. and go back to 12 reps..

Start off light.. end heavy.. heavy again.. end light.
