Reccomended Supplements? - Sunday, May 31, 2009 6:42 PM ( #1 )
Yo I am going to start takin supplements.  I have read a lot of good reviews on whey protein and creatine so im pretty sure i am going to take those.  I also heard about l-glutamine.  Is that any good?  If there is any other good suplements to take please list em.  Thanks.

Whey protein is for people that cannot get their daily requirements from whole foods, as you begin to gain weight getting 200g of protein through whole foods is extremely difficult which is when this is beneficial.

Creatine is a naturally forming compound in the body - the skeletal muscle tissue produces it's own form of creatine. Creatine is in whole foods, steak in particular. There's various forms of creatine but most people like creatine monohydrate - affordable and convenient.

A multi-vitamin, creatine, whey and maybe muscle milk to take before bed is all the supplements needed; BCAAs have their place when cutting but is usually found in Whey.

I would add EFA's and a good anti-oxidant complex to go with the above.
I like glutamine, but it is more crutial for those on a low carb diet plan.

If you have any joint issues, consider some glucosamine.  It's a very low-priority supplement unless you really need it.  Most young people probably would get little real benefit from it, but for me, squats and high-impact cardio do some nasty damage, and so far it's helping.
