Reasons for Training
-

I'd like to know: 1. Why did you start to train? 2. What were your initial goals 3. What are your goals now? If they have changed, why? 1. I started simply the fact that I wasn't happy with my body image 2. To gain muscle/weight 3. To gain strength. The reason I changed was that I was getting sick of trying to gain muscle with "high rep" routines. So basically I started to just focus on strength (well in the last 1-1.5 years), and in fact I have actually made better muscle gains (but I attribute to that my diet, as well as focusing on more compound exercises).

1. To become more fit, to gain hypertrophy, muscular strength, and cardiovascular endurance. 2. To get big 3. They have changed because I've realized a big muscle is worthless unless it's strong.

1. When I was real little I just always imagined myself all ripped up and big when I got older and realized at one point I was gonna have to work for it. 2. To gain a lot of muscle size 3. Ive shifted more towards strength (big 3 and oly lifts), I feel like before I was lifting more to impress others (bodybuilding) and now that its become a passion of mine and I already have an impressive physique I want to impress myself.
working on explosive phase vertical: 35 weight: 206 Big 3: 300/440/515 Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.

1.) I feel that every man should lift heavy weights 2.) To build muscle and look better 3.) To be a well-rounded athlete - strong, fast, good stamina, etc...

1. To better myself, increase my health, supplement my martial arts training with something that would greatly increase my performance, and to be a role model for my son so that he learns that a healthy mind, body, and spirit is only achieved through hard work, dedication, and real food -- not crash diets, laziness, and boxed food-stuffs. 2. Strength. 3. More strength, and now to a lesser extent a better physique.

vdk_au I'd like to know: 1. Why did you start to train? 2. What were your initial goals 3. What are your goals now? If they have changed, why? 1. I think initialy it was for football, but pushing myself to the limits, and competing with others, and obviously girls also play a role. 2. TBH when I started I didn't really have goals. When I got serious my goal was mostly just to add weight each week and get bigger. 3. My goals are the same now, I always plan on getting bigger faster and stronger. Although I am trying to decide whether to go on another big bulk this next year for varsity linebacker, or to stay around the same size and get more speedy for RB.
Goals by end of 2009: Bench 205 Squat 255 ATG Squat Clean 185 "There is no elevator to success, you must take the stairs."

vdk_au I'd like to know: 1. Why did you start to train? 2. What were your initial goals 3. What are your goals now? If they have changed, why? 1. Two part answer, really: a) I had a really crappy self-image, and I was tired of looking like a toothpick, and b) to prove to my anti-vegetarian critics that yes, you can get enough protein and build muscle without eating dead animals. 2. My long term goal has always been to reach at least 190 Lbs, ripped. I break that up into 6-month short-term phases, with my current short-term goal (deadline Sept 12, 2009) being 165 Lbs, with less than 12% body fat. 3. Re-upped my current short-term goal to 180 Lbs with less than 12% body fat, because I vastly underestimated how much mass I could gain this time around.

1. Because I always wanted to have a strong physique, was in gymnastics as a kid and wanted to have muscles. Also wanted to be able to protect myself and those around me if neccesary. 2. Build muscle and then wanted to compete in bodybuilding. 3. Centered more around strength and athleticism. I always wanted to be big and strong and be very athletic, but plain old resistance exercise can help but alone it won't keep me where I want to be. Then there's always wanting to be super human. But i guess that isn't possible. However training can help you become your best.

1. I started because I was once 140lbs, about 30% bf, and really short 2. Just to loose weight. I've never been one for running and crash dieting, so I wanted to loose weight and pack on muscle with resistance 3. I'd still like to loose my love handles, but I'd also like to bulk up in muscle to around 140-145 I'll post some pics of me when I was 13. I had bigger boobs then most chicks I know lol

1. I started to give myself confidence and an image I feel suits my personality, this includes feeling confident on the beach etc. talking to the opposite sex etc. , also to build strength for combative sports, and to give myself a goal, ambition, possible career oppurtunities, motivation etc. 2. Initial goal was to get shredded at a decent size. 3. Goal now is still to get shredded but then to take the strength I have and continue with fighting sports putting it to use.

Probably got my 1st weight bench (Kmart $50) when I was 15. Back then I was skinny and probably weak. Goals were probably to fit more into the desirable jock mold instead of the shy nerd that I was (and perhaps still am!). Strength was probably more important than physique. I probably didn't make the connection between muscles and attractiveness back then. As the years would go by I would come in and out of periods when I would do weights heavily, usually along with biking, running, swimming. I think my goals were fitness, passing the time doing something that felt good (I loved that exhausted feeling after lifting or swimming a couple miles, biking 100 mi., etc.) I got back into weights two years ago after perhaps six years away from them. Since the birth of our first son there didn't seem to be time to work out with all the added responsibilities. After our 3rd son was born, I chose to stay home while my wife worked. After two years of that, let's just say I fancied a little "me" time. The Y worked out perfectly: I can drop off whatever kids I want at ChildWatch for 2 hours a day. It's a godsend! It is my chance to be responsible for no one but me! I can't keep ahead of the laundry, the dishes, or the cleaning, but I can work hard, put on muscle, and have my body be no worse off, and often better, the next day. With 3 kids, as awesome as it is raising them, you're doing the same thing over and over and over, with not much around the house to show for your efforts. At the gym the efforts are visible. So goals are to recharge my batteries for raising my boys, to stay fit, to be involved in and hopefully compete in a sport which fits my lifestyle, to get stronger, and to become more physically attractive, especially to look young and great for my age!

Its good to see the people that are and still working out aren't the ones motivated by just getting girls. Most everyone here seems to have done it for themselves and that has allowed them to keep going. I see too many kids just working out to get chicks, and they lose motivation to lift really fast and never develop the passion you or I have.

1. Why did you start to train? 2. What were your initial goals 3. What are your goals now? If they have changed, why? 1. i first started in middle school, i did only leg work, i was at a short 5'2" but i loved basketball and if i wasnt gunna be taller i wanted to jump higher 2. initial goals were to just be bigger, when i was a freshman in highschool on varsity basketball i weighed in at a measly 135lbs on a good day lol 3. my goals now are performance oriented, i have already got the size i want, now im working on being ripped, when i weighed in at 213 lbs, it really hurt my performance on the court, although i felt like a beast, i was slower, less coordinated..now being at 176 lbs at maybe 8%bf, i feel better than ever, i can jump out the gym, im more active, im quick, im strong, its like a highschool me but better
update! 8/3/09 maxes and goals bench - need to remax goal bench - 405 squat - need to remax goal squat - 500 deadlift - need to remax goal deadlift - 500 weight -174.8 8%bf

4-5 years ago, I dropped down to the floor and could not perform one pushup, I realized that if I want to go somewhere in life I need to do better than this. Lose my spare tire and get acceptable strength and endurance. To be able to run again and have fair strength. Increase my strength and endurance to elite levels and be able to run, swim, and climb my way out of any situation or to wherever I want to go, without slowing down. To be able to defend myself from other people or out run them if I need to. To develop good strength and power relative to my bodyweight. I have had the goal of 100 pushups in a single set for many years, this morning, I got 101 in 2:07, and now I'm aiming higher.
Three week keto test run Started July 19 It will work, or I'm done dieting.
