Should ratings (points) be enabled in Out of Bounds?

You know, I never paid much attention to the whole point system- But ever since these threads have been popping up about it, I've been thinking that maybe Out of Bounds should be exempt- People are getting their stars taken for their opinions, and it shows on their rating in every other forum, which might affect their credibility to someone who doesn't know any better... My two cents.

Now that makes sense.

Out of Bounds is about opinions. And those opinions are usually unrelated to BB which is the #1 focus of the forum.

While Mike does have -4, I think his knowledge of fitness is much above that. Which was always the real reason I didn't want to enable ratings in this forum.

Other forums.. absolutely.

Like I said, who cares? We all have our own reputations on here that aren't reflected in a number. It's just you have to actually READ our posts to get an idea of how good our advice is!

Is there any possibility of having unique scoring for every individual forum? This way i could have -2 in Out of Bounds but +8 in the nutrition forum. The score stays relative to the forum.

Actually, when I was new to the forums and didnt really know anybody, I found that score really helped me identify the knowledgeable people. Thats not to say that those with low scores are not knowledgeable and for the most part a low score had no relevance to certain members bodybuilding awareness. Personally, I take... I mean took pride in my score as it made me feel as if I were really contributing something to the website. It encouraged me to write better, more descript and helpful posts to educate other members of the forum if not to inspire new ideas from them. The rating system is a good system with some obvious kinks; docking stars over objective opinions and an inconsistant use of stars. I myself have read some brilliant posts and neglected to award any stars. I think we are all too busy looking for mistakes or flaws in posts to see how truely great some of the others are. This community has some brilliant people who regularly participate in discussions that should be rewarded for their efforts.

Its a great idea, just work out the kinks.Smile

Exactly. Remove ratings in a forum that has nothing to do with bodybuilding. You've been dinged.. -4.. and I'm 100% sure it's not related to your knowledge of the sport.

As far as I'm concerned, you have contributed and helped people out.

But putting up topics in Out of Bounds full well knowing that people are getting heated, and then expecting them to play fair.. online?

No way.

The only solution is to disable ratings in this forum which 99% of the time.. is for us to build as a community and has nothing to do with your posting in regards to fitness.

All I know, is that without contraversy, this world would be pretty plain. I'm just bringin some colour to the boards.

Okay..

I agree. But if you bring "color" to this Out of Bounds full well knowing that people are heated.. you gotta take their crap as much as you dish it.

Or else you'll end up on of those guys that can dish it out but can't take it.

I think ratings in this particular forum are worthless as it detracts from your overall score which should be related to the posts you make in the fitness areas.

I wish I could make the scores different per forum but it's not setup that way.

And scoring really is silly but sometimes it's the only way to make a particular post stand out.. so a newbie can see some of the talent that is here. That is the intent.

The thing I like about the rating system is that it does reward well thought out and well written posts. Sure, people would still post that stuff if the points weren't there, but it's a sort of pat on the back for a job well done.
The whole time I've been here, which is a while now- I don't think I've ever seen anyone get points taken away from them in any other forum. (And only recently in out of bounds.) Which seems like a good thing to me- It means even when there's disagreement over the number of sets and reps you should do to build muscle, or which protein is the best, no one seems interested in taking anyone's points. Hell, even when someone posts something that's clearly wrong information, everyone just seems to want to help educate them- The thought of taking points away has never occurred to me in those situations.
In Out of Bounds, it seems like it's a punishment of some sort that some people figured they'd hand out just because they disagreed with what others had to say about non bodybuilding stuff, like Mike's posts about the whole hockey thing. I disagree with the way Mike feels about that whole thing, but I never took points away from the guy. He earned those points, and I doubt he earned them all in Out of Bounds.

Ratings are now disabled for general usage in this forum.

Only mods and admins can rate. Sometimes, there is a good post in here. But the general feeling is, it's a place where emotions run high and that can influence the points when this is bodybuilding forum.
