Quick way to heal ankle sprain?

I've been doing alot of cardio lately. I usually wear a pair of flat soled Puma car racing shoes because they're super light and awesome on the treadmill. Two days ago about halfway through my cardio session on the treadmill the outer part of my right foot began to hurt. For some reason I thought it would go away, I'm good with pain so I ran on it for another twenty five minutes until I finished (big mistake). I now have to limp to ease pressure on the foot. I don't have the patience to wait out the pain for a week. I'm still lifting at the gym but I'm not doing cardio. Are there any excercises or methods to speed up the healing process of my ankle?

You'll have to get some patients and wait for it to get better. I wouldnt do any normal activities until you dont need to limp. Why risk further injury or injury by compensating with another area of your body? The best method to heal, is to rest.

Where exactly was the pain? around the ankle of the actual foot itself? Did you roll your ankle? if so, which way - in or out? Have you been icing it? Has this kinda thing happened before? How long have u been cardio like this?

I have never injured my foot like this before. I have had tendinitis (sp) with this foot when I was younger. I went to the doctor and the prescription was a custom shoe insert. The cause of the injury was primarily the shoes I was wearing. There is nearly no support with them and I think the main cause was sustained impact. I didn't roll my ankle. It looks like I'll just have to wait it out.. I'm a little too impatient to stop my lifting schedule though..

yeah it sounds like the shoes are the problem here - use appropriate runners/cross-trainers- the ones they make these days are surprisingly light... if you had inserts its best that you use them, if theyre old, probably worth getting them redone now as our feet can change with time (the pressure loading points and the shape of the arch etc) For now, just get some strapping tape and tape ure ankle as weak ankles are more prone to roll and be sprained or even have ligament tears. Also ice it to reduce the inflammation. I dont see how this ankle is going to stop ure upper body weight training too much - your lower body (e.g. squats, leg press etc) might have to wait till ure healed. Same goes with cardio. Like with most things in life, rest and good sleep seem to be the answer to your problem.
