You can get pretty nice results from a home gym like that- Of course, free weights are better, but it doesn't mean machines are total crap. Another way to look at it though- 420 canadian bucks could probably replace the home gym machine with a nice home free weight setup.

Can't you get a monthly membership at the gym? Shouldn't be more than 40$ a month.

I find home gyms alot better!!! I started off in a local gym and found it was ok until the busy periods arrived (especially chirstmas). The amount of times i had to wait for certain peices of kit just mad emy workouts irritating. Now i have a squat rack, bench and lots of free weights and have seen great results. I also found that using my friend, who has similar goals, as a training partner was a bonus as we constantly push each other to achieve our goals. thanks James

It just some people are different. I always feel ive had a proper workout regardless of where i do it due to the fact of using a training partner. Some people see other guys (or girls) at gyms and either get motivated to work harder and be a little competitive or they feel intimidated by them. I just love free weights and the gyms in my area are pretty poor when it comes to them. thanks James

Personally I think home gyms suck! I had a great one with everything, but I find it way to easy to find a out not work out. Weather its friends wanting to go out or something to do around the house. When you pay for a membership it makes you want to go to the gym get your money's worth and get out of the house to physically go there. Plus you meet people and there is always some one there to spot you!

I think there is a motivation factor....If at home I'm not sure I would really push myself as hard as I do at the gym...plus paying a yearly fee your less likely to skip the gym, at home its easy to say you'll make it up later.

well a home gym .. u can do ur own stuff .. but alone .. no help at all .. so when u do some heavy liftin and ur muscles get tired and the weights jus wont budge .. it takes some time to pull it off lol .. on the other hand .. the gym 8 mins away .. u can perfect ur weight liftin wit a personal trainer, or watch ppl work out. so from my experiance .. i say u can go to the gym to check how its done .. then work it at ur home gym.. jus my experiance

I used to visit a gym several times a week (just to do basic cadio really) and then a few years ago I bought a place 33 miles away from the closest Gym. Just recently (like this week...lol) I am getting back into working out - but more serious than last time and purchased a home gym from BowFlex. I don't have a choice really, I am not driving that far daily. There are pros and cons as many have stated, but I think its more convenient at home but you must push yourself. The benefits though are great...no monthly fee, no travel time, no waiting in line for machines, etc.
