go to the gym, start lightweight and then increase it gradually each week 'till you get to where you were before the surgery

How long ago and what kind of operation did you have? Since your last workout was only month and a half ago, I think that you should take off another month to make sure all muscles are healed properly. It takes a while for muscles to heal, even if your doc told you it`s ok. I had an operation last summer and just like you I was anxious do to activities again.

Give it at least 2 months before you start lifting weights. I had the same surgery last summer and you might seem all well but you can`t tell when your muscles are fully healed. The doctors won`t be able to tell unless they do an MRI.
At your age, you won`t need any protein powder if you eat healthy and alot.

Be patient because when you work out any body type, you are also using your ab muscles to stabilize yourself. A muscle doesn`t heal that fast.

i think he should be fine to start back up, just start light and work your way back up, and your muscles repair themselves very quickly, i wouldnt be worried about the muscle as much as the softer tissue below them...
