it strengthened my forearms a bit, but like jane said, its more cardio than strength straining.
first day with no buds, 11/17, need a new job. 1 down 13 to go.

yeah I love my punching bag, It strengthens the wrist, forearm and even your shoulders. The majority of it is cardio though, and its tougher than a lot of people think.

It is definitely more cardio than anything else, and it is essential in fighting disciplines like Boxing, Martial Arts, etc. I recommend a heavy bag for my personnel use, but I intend to take karate so to each his own.

hahaha excellent question. if someone slaps a lawsuit on me, then it just makes me laugh at what they'd do out of embarassment. but then again, if a guy my size beat the sh*t out of me, i wouldn't be embarassed. ORIGINAL: deadlysuperstar Plus, you will feel more confident when out in public because you know your punching ability will be exponentially stronger & faster than the hothead who doesn't work a bag. You're not gonna get exponentially more powerful at punching just from hitting a bag. There is a lot of technique to boxing and throwing punches the right way. Granted, all it can do is help, but any schmuck can swing at a bag and think he's the next tyson that can pwn all his friends. Plus you can teach yourself to hit the wrong way, and it is alot harder to unlearn bad technique than to learn good technique.

Plus you can teach yourself to hit the wrong way, and it is alot harder to unlearn bad technique than to learn good technique. Everyone who's ever worked a heavy bag at the dojos I've trained at, and all the ex-cons I know who worked heavy bags in prison, all throw faster, stronger punches than dudes who just stand up and try to throw down. Throwing punches in a street fight and the sport of boxing are two entirely different things. I see your point, but I'm not talking about winning boxing bouts, I'm talking about throwin' down in the movie theater parking lot against the loudmouth who wants to show out for his girl. His punches are not gonna be anywhere near as fast or strong as a guy who slugs it out regularly on a heavy bag, and NEITHER of them will have pro/am boxing experience/training... the heavy bag hitter be the lesser of two evils by far. A flying knee will take care of him.

take like a pair of 3lb db's and start wailing on the bag. Its harder than you think.

I have some 14oz. gloves and those will wear you down while keeping form. 3lbs would be a bit much to keep form.

poor rampage, I see his career going downhill from this point forward. He will get his rematch with forrest, and regardless of whether or not he wins, he won't reign over the division any more. /threadjack

I just hit my bag with a 15lb db. That's tough but I whip that thing right back to my shoulder. Not flailing hands with that kind of weight.haha
