Pulled Muscle or worse??? - Wednesday, January 03, 2007 6:41 PM
Ok well  i have a sharp pain in the top left of my waist next to my spine, and now whenever i lift my left leg past a certain point a sharp pain goes through it, or when i bend forward.

I am pritty sure this happend when i was stretching my hamstrings after a leg workout and may of tried to stretch too far...

I am pritty condident this isnt a result of my legworkout because i always try for perfect form and wear a belt during squats.

I am seeing a docter next tuesday which sucks because last week i took off, and now i gotta take this week off as well :(

Anyone had this pain before?

It sound like a Sacral Ilium strain, and will require physiotherapy.  Of course you can do your own exercises for it to not pay any money.  If you go to a gym to work out, you will be ok, because you will still be able to do most of your machine and cable movements.  You do not want to be lifting weights off of the floor.  This type of injury can be 1 step forward and 2 steps back if you don't take care of it.  Expect, if it is ligaments, for it to bother you for 6 months.  Just stay away from lifting weights off of the floor, and you should be ok.
No deadlifts, no squats, no leg presses, no barbells and no dumbbells.
More about the injury:  Most likely the ligament that ties the sacrum to the ilium.  Where your spine meets your hip.  Hopefully it is not this injury, but if it is, it is not the end of the world.  Keep us updated, and good luck.

My parents just think it's a inflamed muscle, hopefully their right. I'm seeing a doctor and not doing any weights till then, which really sucks being that i'm strength training atm for SHOT PUT

Thanks for the info, anyidea how this Sacral Ilium strain is usually caused?

Normally from lifting things in positions that are not optimal for spinal alignment.....for example, reaching.  Most right handed people hurt the left side and left handed people the right side, but it is possible either way.
I hope your parents are right.
