I know if protein gets too hot it becomes denatured. If I add a scoop of protein powder to my oatmeal before cooking it in the microwave, will this (cooking it in the microwave) denature the protein and make it useless? Thanks, JB

Because I don't like my oatmeal runny. I like it thick. However, it's more difficult to mix the protein when the oatmeal is thick. Do you know if it denatures the protein if I add the powder before I nuke it? That's all I really want to know.

or instead of the whey in the oatmeal how about the oatmeal in the whey. Put the oatmeal, 1 cup of milk, and 1 scoop of whey into a blender, turn the blender on, and drink up

I've done that before WheyFreak. I do appreciate the alternative methods that are being provided. However, does anybody know the answer to my question? Does it denature the protein if I nuke it like I stated in my first post? That's all I want to know.

sry for not giving a direct answer. chances are that it doesnt but im not entirely sure the exact temp. protein "denatures" and im not sure how hot it gets in the microwave. it also depends on the source of protein

The standard microwave cooks at 200 degrees celcius. I use protein powder in my oatmeal, but do not add it until half way through cooking. So the protein is only in the mic for 1 minute. For it to thicken, just let the oatmeal set for a few minutes, as the PP and oats will draw the moisture up and thicken your oats.

Was away for 2 reasons: firstly, I moved. and it took awhile to get hooked up again. secondly, I was really tired of people arguing with me instead of just posting their experiences. But here I am, and thanks for noticing I was gone.

I put protein powder in with my ceral, instead of sugar. As well i will use it in oatmeal. Just be careful proetin powder will taste kinda crappy when heated. So let it cool down a little before adding it. Experiments with protein powder and adding it to hot chocolate is how i found that out

Vanilla sucks. Sorry, that's just the way it is. Chocolate is ultimate. Plain old chocolate, nothing fancy. However, GNC is kinda expensive. I got this stuff at Vitamin World made by a company called Optimum Nutrition, its 'double rich chocolate' and delicious. Also, there are 24g whey per serving.

Make you oatmeal a little more runny than normal, cook it then add the whey, the powder will thicken it up a bit Oh, and I love the new chocolate carmel whey powder from GNC
