Preparation for Soccer season
-
Monday, June 19, 2006 1:04 AM
My soccer season starts in about 3 weeks and I need to get in shape. What sort of routine would I be able to do to increase my speed, and also my stamina so that I can last for the entire match? Thanks.

A couple of college drills we use for preperation in soccer are these... Shuttle runs...Set up 5 cones each 5 years apart...Run to the first cone and back, then to the 2nd and back and continue this process all the way through the 5 cones...Take a stop watch and record the time spent completing that cycle...That would be the completion of ONE set...You need to do 9 sets...Take 30 seconds break after each set...Take a 1 minute every 3rd set...So sets 3 and 6...Your average time for the 9 sets should come to less then 30 seconds per set...Hope I didn't confuse you... Another good one is the cooper...Thats 2 miles in under 12 minutes...Anything more then that is unacceptable... Lastly....Set up the cones again...5 of them 5 yards apart...This one isn't timed but you should bust your azz trying to do it...Sprint to the first cone...When you get there do a tuck jump, followed immediately by ONE pushup...Sprint to the 2nd cone...When you get there do 2 tuck jumps, followed by TWO pushups (you get the drift(...Repeat this process all the way through the 5th cone...Then sprint all the way back to the finish and do 25 situps after you cross the line...You should do this drill 3 times MAX...
