Power / Hang cleans
-

I was thinking of adding power cleans or hang cleans to my workout routine. I would preffer adding powercleans (because more weight can be handled) but I'm not sure if hang cleans have any extra effectiveness or the difference between the two (muscles worked). I used to do them before but stopped and so far what I know is that they are for power and strength mainly. If i added this into my routine would I have to remove a corelift? (bench/squat/deadlift) or how could I work this in. Cleans are very tiring

If you are just doing the clean portion of the lift, do them before squats or deadlift. If you do squats and deadlift on the same day, do the cleans before them both. If you are going to work the entire lift, (clean and jerk) you can do it first in your workout before benchpress, squat or deadlift. Just make sure they are first!

That's exactly what I was about to say, Bossman. But you beat me to it. Our football coach gave us a little workout plan, and it has powercleans after squats. And it doesn't even include deadlifts! That's why I don't do it.

From the initial pull in the clean and jerk, you rack the weight in the front squat position before you jerk the weight overhead. In the snatch, it is one continuous motion. You have to catch the weight with locked out arms from the initial pull and squat up.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! (Sorry about that. Knee jerk reaction.) Always start with a power movement, then you can perform squats, deadlifts etc. You must be fresh for cleans, snatches and the like.
