Post Workout Supps - Monday, September 24, 2007 6:16 AM
I was at the gym today, and after my workout I was mixing my protein shake and some guy out of the blue offers me the following advice:

He says to drink Gatorade or similar right after the workout... then about an hour later drink the protein shake.

As I had never heard this one before, I was unsure what to think.  Looking at him, obviously it works... and he did mention that he took a nutrition course (although can't trust on that alone).

So, your opinions?

I've read that you should get 60 - 100g of fast digesting carbs in you immediatly ofter workout.  I put 3 scoops of gatorade with my protein power to get close to 60g.

I use orange gatorade mixed with vanilla protein.

For me there hasn't been any adverse affects such as an increase in BF%, and I have seen some larger gains since I've started.

gatorade is good for the quick craps, bad for the high fructose.  you could eat a banana post workout for carbs and i think that would be more beneficial.  or a creatine with carbs.

He is right.  Good to have your fast digesting carbs immeidately after workout out.  Then follow up with your protein about 30-45 minutes later.  Although the whey is fast it will slow the carbs down.
