Post w/o carbs in evening when cutting? - Monday, January 19, 2009 11:21 AM ( #1 )
Basically if I have to workout in the evening should I still be having a banana with my shake?

Also whilst on the subject, should I still be taking a casein shake before bed or just some BCAA's?

thanks

Yes you need the carbs, after working out you already will have low glycogen levels and sleeping depletes these levels even more due to a highly fasted state.  The carbs won't be stored as fat because they will be used to replenish your glycogen.  I wouldn't drink a casein shake while cutting, most likely there is too much sugar in it.  Something like cottage cheese or a glass of skim milk would be better,  and you can add bcaa's or just leucine to either one of these.

Doesn't cottage cheese have a lot of carbs in it so you wouldn't want to take it right before bed?  Or is that ok?  I normally don't like to eat carbs before bed and my casein only has 4 g (1 g of sugar) so I've been doing that instead of CC.

after a workout and in the morning are when your glycogen levels are depleted the most, you need carbs to replenish this.  If you didn't work out then I would say no to the carbs before bedtime.

That's what I figured.  I concentrate my carbs in the morning (oatmeal) and pre/post workout (bread) and that's about all of the carbs that I eat, except for a little bit of spinach with lunch.

That is ok, fibrous carbs can pretty much be eaten at will.  It is the starchy ones that must be avoided at certain times.
