Please help!!! - Girlfriend's not making any progress - Friday, May 19, 2006 12:22 AM ( #1 )
Hi All!

I need some serious advise/critique on my girlfriend's routine and nutrition.
She has been following this routine & diet for about 4 months now and ....well.....nothing. She's actually put on a kilogram or 2. This is becoming very frustrating for both of us - she needs to see some results or she's gonna throw in the towel very soon.

Here's her diet:

5:30 - 250ml Orange Juice (Pre-Workout)
8:00 - 2 Biscuits of ready-to-eat Shredded wheat with 200ml Fat-Free Milk.
10:30 - 150ml Fat-Free Yogurt with an apple/pear/2 tangerines
13:00 - Sandwich made with wholewheat bread, 2 slices of turkey/chicken/beef/ham, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, 2 small slices mozarella cheese, mustard/low-fat mayo and small amount of low-fat margerine. Always with about 2 cups mixed salad on the side.
15:00 - Snack bar/Muffin with an apple/pear/2 tangerines.
19:00 - 1 Chicken Breast with 1/2 cup brown rice and 1 cup mixed vegetables.

She drinks about 2 litres of water/day.

She lifts weights 3 times per week (mon, wed, fri) with a very decent 3-day split - always with a 10min warmup on a stationary bike/treadmill.
On Tues and Thurs she does 40min cardio (LISS).

She is 25 years old, weighs 75kg, 32% body fat and is 1.65m tall.

Her goal is to lose about 10kg and get that body fat % way down.

Please help!!!!

Regards,
AngeliX

Well the calorie calculators on this site indicate she needs approx 2200 calories in order to lose weight, so she is in deficit of 700 cals.

This is why no difference has been seen.

Have a look at this post here for some more info

Definitely go by what the calorie calcs say- Like GLD said, she's not eating enough to allow her system to burn fat properly. Besides that, a glance at that diet shows she's probably not getting enough protein- A couple of meals are mostly carbs, etc. Why not head over to fitday.com, put this current food info in their system, and see exactly what sort of calories/protein/carb/fat amounts you're looking at- That way, you'll have some idea of what to increase to reach her daily goals.

Exactly. According to fitday your girlfriend is burning 2800 calories a day before even taking into account her cardio and weight lifting. This means her diet is putting her into a state of starvation that has her body desperately trying to keep fat stores to ensure its survival.
