Hey ya'll. I'm 15 (About 4 months of 16) and only weigh around 125, and dont really have all that much muscle. I've been reading around and stuff and most of this stuff is quite interesting, but I'm still undecided whether I will start up a training program to get my muscle up. I know that I've ofcourse been through all the puberty things and la de da, but is it possible that my body may not have fully physically matured yet? Most guys put on a bit of muscle during this time, and that has yet to happen to me. Could it still be on the waiting list? Or is it just that I'm skinny? Its just that most of my mates are 16ish, and they all seem to have musclar bodies compared to me. (None of them work out either!) Weird. Everyone is different I suppose. What are peoples thoughts and own experiances with this?

I suggest you wait those 4 months. I started working out when I turned 16 too, its better to wait for a while then asking yourself after why am I so short. You can start doing basics (unless you already have), like push-ups, chin-ups, sit-ups, dips, etc. things like these will help you when you do start and you can keep doing them.

Maybe it is better that I wait those 4 months. I'm starting to get quite the beard going, I pretty much have to shave everyday or I'll have a light shadow on my upper lip and chin. In a couple of months I could probably a goatee! :P But I'm thinking that I still have a lot of growing to go. I dont want to be massive or big, I just wanted a nice tone defined body. You think that doing basic things may help my progress for when I do start and even get me more fit and muscular? Ofcourse I'd still have to eat healthy, but maybe not set up a full blown diet like most BB's around here that want to get MASSIVE. Whats everyones thoughts on just doing some basic excersises for awhile to prepare me? I could do it 3-4 times a week?

Ye basics will definately help you, its something that you should be doing regularly. If you can do 50 push-ups with ease then find online articles which show you the harder way to do them and do that, always progress and you will gain strength, shape through that.

I second that, for now stick with the basics, the basics being any thing you can do around your houses without the use of weights.

I doubt that I could do 50 pushups with ease But I will start working on it. Could anyone make me a nice routine to follow that invovles thing such as pushups, crunches etc? I dont really know how much to put in there and how often to do them. I do have some light dumbells that I could use for certain excersises (They are only 11 Lb though, maybe I could do squats with them?). I would probably aim for doing 3 or 4 workouts a week, does that sound alright? I want this to be not a full bodybuilding type gym workout (Obviously), but still effective. I am looking over the nutrition forum now and evaluating what I usually eat. Would it be good to have 4 or 5 meals a day? How much protein, at my age, should I be aiming for daily? I really like tuna and chicken, so theres already a lot. For some reason my wholemeal bread has a lot of protein in it as well. I doubt that I'd need any supplaments considering this is just a light workout scheme, right? I know to put on muscle you have to eat quite a lot, if I wanted to put on muscle (Which I do), that means I'd have to do the same. Eat a lot, and eat healthy! Edit- I would still like to excersize pretty much everypart of my body. Esp Chest, Abs, Shoulders, legs and arms (Thats pretty much it isnt it?) Cheers for all the help and I hope someone can answer all my questions. This forum is great! :D

Er, is it even possible to add on muscle doing these simple excersies? I've heard from a few sources yes, and a few sources no. I'm not aiming to add on that much muscle, just toughen up what I have and maybe look a bit more cut. *Shrugs*.

if ur thin like u say and have always been this way it is more than likely that u are an ectomorph, meaning that u have a hard time gaining wieght and can pretty much eat whatever u want without gaining fat. i would say that the body weight exercises probablly wont do that much. they can get u alittle more toned i supposed and i know doing pushups when i was younger defenetly helped my chest get stronger so now its alittle bigger but still i'd say for an ectomorph wanting to gain muscle then bodywieght exercises wont do that much. when u think about it body wieght is just like high reps and low wieght training. if u read anything about building muscle you'll see that no1 will ever suggest doing reps of 50 with a light wieght to put on muscle so why would that be any different for push ups and other body wieght exercises? i would stick to heavier lifting in the 6-12 rep range. if u do find some body wieght exercises hard u may do well with those if u can only get about 6-12 reps doing those (ie: chips ups (for back), pull ups (for biceps and back), upside-down pushups( for shoulders).

Hm now I'm confused as to what to do. I cant join a gym for a little while, but I really wanna do something still! Maybe its time to dish out some money for some heavier dumbells and just do a few things at home for a while, until I can join a gym? (Or until I'm 16, which is conviently around the same time). I'm not very good at doing pushups, as I have never really done any proper training like that. So they are quite hard for me... If you say that body excersizes wont do much, how do people train their abs then? I thought the biggest way people train their abs were Crunches? What now...What now.. P.s. I havent had ny soft drinks for about 3 days now (I used to drink a lot) and I can say I dont miss them. I think my stomach likes me a lot better than it did before.
