Penn State Powerlifting - Tuesday, August 25, 2009 11:22 AM ( #1 )
So Penn State has a decent powerlifting team and im considering joining.  It'd be neat to lift with a bunch of experienced guys like that and actually compete. the only downsides i see are that it costs like $120 to join and im a broke college kid haha and that i mainly just lift for my own personal goals, im really not too concerned with being a fat powerlifter who's goals is just to get better lifts than you.

whats everyone's thought?

Is it a gym membership for the cost? or is it to workout with them? To off set team costs? If its just to hang with them? Get better than the guy the same weight as you who pays, then they will ask you to come over free of charge.  You need the recruitment fee. Yes, you are that good! Believe!

Mav,
Start getting used to asking the 'rents for $.  J/k.  I don't know your situation, but the $120 seems well worth it for all the enjoyment you'll get out of it.  Good luck!  I hope you figure out a way to do it!  :)

Will you be a freshman this year?  Penn State, good school, man!  Your folks must have raised you well!

that would be sick!! i go to a d1 school but we don't have a powerlifting club or anything like that. i think it would be fun though, and it would probably help u push yourself even further. but ya the whole fat ass powerlifter look is not so attractive. i love being lean and putting up big weights

ps penn state's football team is about to be nasty this coming season!

wet,
There is a fee for the gym and there is a fee to join up with the powerlifters i guess. I dont really know too much about it. I believe there is a meeting for all the clubs tomorrow i'll probably hit it up and see what the whole deal is.

you are clearly in good shape, but i think it could benifit you more than you envision. just the wisdom of some of the older powerlifters could help you out massively, and more competitive lifting would put more mass on your back.
Bench Press Max - 170kg @ 100kg
Squat Max - 220kg @100kg
Deadlift Max - 275kg @100kg

Weight - 90kg
