Hi I am new and I have started working out for a month already, but I have a question. I am not too fat and I want to get pecks. However, my chest doesn't seem to have much of anything it is flat and I can almost feel to the bone so will I still be able to build pecks? I do alot of running so should I try to not lose any more fat in my chest? Thanks!

If you are just starting out, push ups may be the best thing to do before you get into serious weightlifting. This will help to prevent injury when you get into free weight bench. This being said, in the weight room, free weight benchpress is in my opinion the best way to develop your pecs. Not incline or decline, just old fashioned flat bench bench press. If you feel your pecs have already warmed up to the free weight bench, then skip the push ups, but start out with really light weight. Take what you can benchpress comfortably about 15 times, and do this for 4 sets at 12-15 reps. Starting out with light weight will help develop a good base. I started out doing benchpress as my only chest workout and by the time i was a senior in high school, i had one of the top three highest bench presses on the football squad and i only weighed 180 lbs. (and not to mention huge pecs). Make sure you give yourself recovery time, personally i'd give it 5 days. Keep running, but make sure you split up your cardio and weight room workouts. Once your chest develops a little you can graduate to other chest workouts like flys, dumbell incline bench etc, but for now, id keep it super simple and just try to get a good base. Also, once you feel your workout is becoming too easy for you to do on benchpress, try adding a little weight and lowering to 4 sets of 10 reps. Eventually, once additional chest workouts have been added in and your pecs have been shocked into weight lifting mode, you can start doing mass building sets of lower more intense reps, but for now, keep it light and build a base or your pecs may be injured or not develop at all. Make sure you eat healthy too (lots of protein). If you've got any follow up questions please post, and listen to these other guys, they know what they are talking about.

Hey, I am also a senior in high school. I am also looking to build some chest muscle. I would call my self very skinny, and have little body fat. I really would like to build some muscle and wanted to know what the best way is. I have a gym membership. I am 6' 2'' and weigh about 150. I am going to start doing what you told the guy above. I am also a runner, and i play soccer for my school. Any other ideas then push ups and start bunching small weight. Its kinda funny, i have abs but no peeks, is that usuall, thanks.

Well I'm also new to bodybuilding.. I'm getting my body measured very soon.. But, I'm not in a gym yet, I will be next month as I'll be just opening. So, What I was wondering is, 1. Is push-up's a steady excersise to do for pec's? untilthe gym open's, then I'll start working with bench press. And 2. For abs, without the gym equipment, crunches are fine for starting a little workout before the gym opens? Also, I know when I get to the gym, i'll have to plan my day's of working out IE. Monday - Biceps, Deltoids Tuesday - Pecs, Abs Wensday - Quadriceps Thursday - Biceps, Deltoids Friday - Pecs, Abs Saturday - Recover Sunday - Recover I know that isn't a good scheduel to go by, but it's just an example to give anyone that's confused a little help getting on track again...
