Peanuts.. A Few Are Okay - Monday, June 02, 2003 4:12 PM
Used fitday to log that I ate about 18, shelled peanuts (didn' t eat the shell).

Dang! Nice protein.. but kinda high in fat as well. My intake for the last few days has been around 29-30g a day.. just with those peanuts it was 35g alone.

I guess they are a healthy and fun snack but should be used in moderation.

Peanuts are actually very good for you. I' m speaking of the plain, unsalted, regular old peanut. One of their positive effects is that they raise your natural testosterone levels naturally... and more testosterone is always good (if your a guy of course).

On a side note, Red licorice lowers your testosterone levels. Twizlers are fine... but regular licorice contains a chemical that I can' t remember at this time which lowers your testosterone. Maybe someone else knows what I' m talking about?

I agree.

But they still have to be used in moderation. You cannot negate the fact that peanuts have fat.. they do have protein and are a good source of essential oils. But the fat content can be high if you are trying to keep it limited.

For individuals on a bulking plan, I think peanuts are great. Even salted. For the amount of water we drink (1+ gallons a day) that is going to flush a lot of sodium out as well. So I' m impartial to salted nuts (please no sick jokes) as well.

I' m not sure I' d recommend too many of them if your goal is to cut and lose weight. But for me, on a bulking plan, they are a pretty healthy and good snack.

The shells are a good source of fiber. But I would recommend you get your fiber elsewhere!

An ounce of peanuts once a day is healthy (approx. 15G Fat). Its a great source of monounsaturated fat. You could also do 1T. natural peanut butter :D

Went to Safeway last night and picked up a jar of 100% natural PB.

So do you guys just dip a spoon in there and eat it? Or put it on something like celery?

They contain resveratrol, which is cardiac-protective.

Grapes/wine has it too though, and a glass of the red stuff is a lot more enjoyable than a handful of peanuts.

I quit drinking about 3-4 months back, save for the occasional glass of spanish rioja with my pasta (tagliateli, fetuccini, spaghetti or linguine) on refeed days.

I' ve never looked back since. Not sure when i' ll fall off the wagon and revert back to beer, but right now i have no immediate plans to. I' m enjoying the ride.

On the subject of natural PB, if you can find a supermarket that grinds it fresh, it' s 10 times better than the normal stuff off the shelf, it doesn' t have that layer of oil on the top and tastes better.
