PWO shake - opinions...? the more I research the more I am learning that the PWO shake (post workout shake) should be simple so that the whey is easily absorbed. My current shake is 2 cups of 2% milk, one scoop non-flavored whey, one tablespoon cocoa and one teaspoon brown sugar. I have heard that water is best for the PWO shake, but does the milk really slow it down that much? I mean you get some extra protein in the milk, and whey with water is just gross. My original shakes used to be really hearty - I would use fruit and yogurt inplace of the chocolate. I still do that kind of thick shake as a mid day meal, but not my PWO shake - does that sound like a good plan?

Well, I think we've all heard the same things about milk slowing absorbtion. The real questions are a) Is it true? and b) If true, does it slow it by any appreciable amount? Does anyone here have any actual facts regarding this matter? Twin Peak? MDA? Leslie? Kris?

I cant help you on the burning rate of lactose and even though I cant confirm it I know it does burn slowly, ever heard of old people drinking milk before they go to bed because it helps them sleep better. Also though the sugar in milk behaves like fructose, somehow or another it seems to go straight to the liver where it is connverted to glucose while dextrose (which is basically a fancy name for glucose) goes to the blood stream almost instantaneously and promotes the pancreas to release insulin. Ive heard thar back in the day pro bb's would take insulin shots this was before my time though, I think. I have been using proteincustomizer.com's post workout shake and it tastes real good plus its not too expensive and it has some bcaa's in it. Its also a pain to buy all the ingredients.
