Over training? - Saturday, April 29, 2006 12:12 PM
My brother is 19yrs old has been lifting for about a year now, his goal is to gain mucle and aventualy "get ripped." So the probelm is he does 7 sets consisting of 8-10 reps on every muscle group. I tell him hes over doing it, whats your take on this?

7 sets 8-10 reps on every muscle sounds ok to me, unless hes doing that on every muscle group in ONE day EVERY day, then id be very worried.

If he seperates the muscle groups into different days then that sounds fine to me....
It's impossible to meddle with something that doesn't have a plan

Hmmmm thats odd I thought the most sets you should if you want to gain size would have to be 3-4 and only 8-12 reps. Can some one explain?

3-4 sets per exercise ! but people do 3 or 4 exercises per muscle normally

that's 9-12 sets...
i'm 19
incline bench press 160lbs 100reps
incline dumbells curl 100lbs 2 reps
stiff leg deadlift 220lbs 100reps

Exactly. If it's seven sets total per workout, some people might say he's not doing enough- If it's seven sets per exercise, and he's doing like four exercises, then he could definitely cut things down a bit.

yeah, that would be a lot. But say 4 sets for 4-5 exercises isnt bad at all.
