Oly lifting - Sunday, July 19, 2009 12:32 PM ( #1 )
So I wasnt excited to see according to the chart that shows where youre at on all of the core lifts (beginner, intermediate, advanced, elite) said that I was at the advanced level for everything except my clean, which wasnt even close.  225 when it should be around 275.  I know its just a chart but this definatly shows that I have more strength than Ive learned to use in my cleans.  I want to start working on them and getting serious with my oly lifts but its so weird getting the form down.  Im getting a trainer to help me with them but I think his knowledge is limited as hes a bodybuilder and probably just learned this stuff in college or something but doesnt have any actual experience with it.  Is there anyone who knows alot about oly lifting that could critique a video I put up or have knowledge about how they train?  Ive read alot that they do alot of sessions per week, training everyday sometimes twice a day.   Its summer, Im definatly up for training twice a day, I can even do cleans in my basement and wont have to drive out to the gym for a 2nd session.  I just really wanna get my clean up.

Im thinking about checking out the strenghtmill forums too, I saw a whole section for oly lifting on there.

I'm not good with olympic lifts personally. But if I were in your shoes I'd go to strength mill and ask Rippetoe for a critique.

Cleans are awesome, the last month or two i've really been liking them. Like THS said, so much about form. Yeah, they do do alot of volume, because there isn't really an eccentric motion, so they can lift more frequently. But I don't think that would effect you since i'm guessing your still going to do mostly non olympic lifts? Just add it in a couple times a week.

in florida highschools we have to compete by doing a C&J so ive done quite a bit of it (although its my major weakness) so there is a chance I and some of my friends could give you some advice after watching your form. Just post some videos and we will see what we should do. Also are you using a hook grip when you do them?

Will do.  I mean, my forms not horrible, but its not on point.  Ill try to get one up tomoro or the day after.

I wanna do them every day, even if it slows down my recovery from squats and deadlifts.  I need to get my speed-strength on par with my absolute strength.

I would personally post on Strengthmill and ask rippetoe. Within the next year I plan on doing that for all my lifts if I can get a hold of a video camera.

I think your best bet would be to have someone work on your form in person as opposed to a video critique.  The trainer sounds like a good idea.

World class coaching, theres "worlds fastest lift" - the snatch, and "worlds strongest lift" - the clean and jerk. There both excellent dvd's.

For a good trainer I would think your best bet would be to contact a local weightlifting federation and ask them for some recommendations

The elite numbers are ridiculous goals: lifetime goals id say, but ima try and get them sometime in my early-mid twenties.

327 Clean? dayum.  Thats a ****-ton to clean.  If I could do that...Id be so happy with myself.

yeah cleaning over 300, just makes me flinch atm.

but damn, just imagining the feeling of being able to clean over 300...

im aiming for 235, more if I can next time I max. Thinking about doing it again in about 3-4 weeks before I start the 20 rep squat program.
