Yes, I've seen his posts. I can only wish I'm that good at 60 something.
Just wanting to know if anyone else on this daily forum was older than me (hoping). Just a thought.

I pay close attention to your posts too. Lots of help for me. I have seen a few posts from the younger bunch about: my mom needs help, my dad needs help. I think we need to get a few more "like us" on here. Would make for a good discussion exchange.

EDIT: darn quote marks, I'll figure this out sooner or later...

Welcome Designer. You got me beat by one month. I think we still have a few good years left in us. I've only slowed down due to joint issues I've never had before. Slow and steady wins the race.

I will be 60 next Feb./09 I started working out seriously when I was 55. I did my first show, (Fame) last year and am now training for my second show in April/09. What I like about the gyms that I have worked out is that if you are serious about training there is no age barrier. I learn from guys that are thirty years younger and they learn from me. You have to love that burning feeling.

We're not old guys, just well seasoned.

Truthfully, I feel pretty darn good at 47. Since I lost weight and started getting back into shape it's like I'm in my 20's or 30's again. In my opinion, there is no reason for a person in their 40's or 50's to feel like the best years in life are over. Diet and exercise can make a world of difference.

Tamcry- good luck on your up and comming event. I have not thought much about doing a competition, maybe a few years of lifting I may change my mind.

It is nice to have a few older guys here. Nothing against the young people on this site but sometimes it is nice to hear opinions or answers from a contemporary, or at least someone old enough to have had a legal drink.

Im 18 and yeah like stallone this thread caught my eye. I truly do commend you guys and the amount of dedication you can put forth with a family and other responsibilities that take up quite a bit of time. Im just now learning after moving out of the house for a year, how bad it sucks to pay some of my bills and college work and having a job and hell i dont have kids or a wife(thankfully)haha. So yeah big ups to eveyone here still kickin and making lifting a priority in their lives!

Thanks IWMI,
I was not always this dedicated. I got to a point in my life were I needed a change and made it a priority, instead of doing it here or there. It took some time before my wife finally figured out that I'm not skipping my workouts for this or that. This time I come first.

Same here WD
I didn't get really serious about bodybuilding until the last few years.
I was the last person, growing up,that you'd think would be looking buff as a 44 year old. I was a stoner in HS,A drunk well into my 30's....LOL....You should see the looks I got at my High school reunion....HaHaHa.....

Re:Oldest? - Tuesday, November 04, 2008 3:28 PM ( #27 )
Same here, about 2 years ago I got serious about regaining my health. I was 240 lbs, could barely manage 3 push-ups or walk up a flight of stairs. I started loosing weight, and lifting (but not the right way as I have learned since coming here) and started feeling better right away.

I'm now 175 lbs (up 5 lbs in the last month or so) and can do push-ups all day long. I hope now to be able to build strength and add mass without adding too much fat.

I wish that this site had been around years ago as I could have saved myself a lot of mistakes and wasted effort.

Re:Oldest? - Wednesday, November 05, 2008 9:11 AM ( #28 )
Thanks for the words of support. One thing that I have leaned in the past few years is that this sport is for all ages ( I’m talking 18 and up for the guy’s I know) and when you are serious about maintaining a better life style and wanting to take care of your body there is no age barrier. I have some great conversations with the younger guy’s at my gym. The respect goes both ways and I really get a kick out of helping them when ever I can. On the opposite side of the coin I have learned a great deal from them as well. The most common question I get is how I get to look like I do at me age. Wow that one really makes me feel old. Anyway all I tell them is that you are given one body and one only, so take care of it. Treat it like an expensive automobile. You wouldn’t just put any type of oil or fuel in it just to keep it going. That’s how you should treat your body. I am a true believer that weight lifting is the Fountain of Youth. Too many of my friends my age say they are too old to this or that. Or they say, “remember when I could do 50 push-ups” Too many people give in to age. Age is nothing but a number and if you let it prevent you from trying something new you are the one that looses out. You will never feel that inner feeling of pushing yourselfer to the limit. That to me is the real high.
