"Old man pride"???

I've noticed that men over 35 that are the same size as me, seem to be a little bit stronger than me. I think it has something to do with muscle density, but my friend thinks its "Old man pride". Anyone have an idea on why this is??

Well yes. 35 it's not exactly over. If you are a good bodybuilder in your teens, at 35, you'll be able to talk 90% of the younger crowd. Not only do you have years of strength training, but you have experience as well. At 35 you don't suddenly get weaker. I'm 31 and totally stronger then I was at 18. There is no way I could bench 225 in college. I was so happy when I went to my friend's gym in Berkeley and benched 185 lbs for 2 reps. All depends. There's a dude who's 62 who is deadlifting 375. And my bud who's 41 and does leg presses in the 1000's.

Very good question. . . I believe MDA is right that men & women training for years have developed quality muscle density. Also, pride ( I refuse to use "Old Man") and focus have an impact. To me, the wild thing about age is mentally you don't believe it . . . until your knees pop & crackle or your body takes 5-7 days instead of 3-4 to recover from a great workout. Here's my final take on youth and aging . . . at 43 I've been there done that (partying, etc.). I no longer want to party until 4AM (not to mention it take me 3-4 days to recover!) but I do want the best physical and mental shape I can possibly develop!! I will not let anything or anyone distract me from reaching my goal! I've found that younger guys are easily distracted. . . send a pretty body with skin tight spandex into the gym and their hormones kick into overdrive and their mind is no longer focused. NOTE: I'm looking too but I enjoy an move on. . .
