Ok I need a lot of help - Thursday, June 09, 2005 6:48 PM
Hi as of right now i am 28 5'6 260 33% body fat as you can see i am starting this out late and from a very bad poiont my ultimate goal is to be the size of bob sapp or dalip singh in about 3 years i want straight muscle mass, cuts aren't that important to me. I am planning on eating 3500 calories a day(50% protien) which is the average for my intitial target weight of 200lbs but much less the 4500+ calerie needs to mantian my present weigh. this way i can gain muscle while losing fat or is my logic flawed.

what will be the fastest way to get where i am going

i think you should drop the fat first and don't worry about muscles until you are more lean

It's a proven fact that weight training will increase your metabolism, and combined with cardio, will shred the weight if your intensity is right. Also, eat 6 smaller meals every 3 hours or so to stabilise insulin levels within the body for the greatest anabolic effect and for maximum metabolic effect. Train hard. Post a journal to allow others to encourage you if this will help. Program the mind to LOVE training, and do not allow negativity, laziness etc to stop you from achieving your goals. You'll make fast, noticible gains in the beginning in terms of weight loss, strength gains etc. Good luck!

yes what he said, i meant focus on losing the weight, with high intensity weights, like high reps, supersets, good clean eating etc!

I would recommend that you take the first 3 weeks and get your body used to lifting. By this I mean, moderate weight, 3 sets of 8 reps, focus on good form, hit all the major muscle groups (chest, legs, back, shoulders, arms (triceps and biceps) and abs) and establish a schedule. First week no more than 2 exercises per muscle group and only work each muscle group once per week.  Do this for two weeks. Third week add a 3rd exercise per muscle group.

Then from there I would recommend that you take a look at the MAX-OT program.  This program is not a true muscle mass building program but it does lend itself very well to increasing muscle mass while losing BF. I used this program to lose 40 pounds of overall bodyweight while decreasing my BF% from ~29% to ~23% (starting 310 at 6'3" now 270).  I did this with very minimal cardio (playing tennis and soccer with the VERY ocasional treadmill session) so I know it's possible.  But, you need to make sure you follow these guidlines:

1) Ease into it.  Your body needs time to adjust to your new activities
2) Stretch.  I would HIGHLY recommend taking at least 10 min 3 times a  week to do some solid stretching.
3) Drink water. Lots and lots. At least a gallon a day.
4) Eat smaller portions, more often. Your protein percentage is a little high. I would think it should be no more than 40%.
5) Keep a journal. Not just of what exercises you do but also what you eat (this has been a major stumbling block of mine)
6) Eat more calories than 3500, I would think closer to 4000 depending on your activity level.  BUT if you track your calories and you track your progress and you find that your BF is not dropping, then cut 100-200 calories a day and see how that works.
7) SLEEP!!! At least 7 hours a night.

Just my thoughts.
A friend helps you move, a true friend helps you move bodies.

let me repharse that at my weight, 244 lbs what is a safe high (intense) heart rate? Also to all wrestlers how can you tell your strong enough via the amount you lift in the gym to toss a 180lb man around easily like a rag doll? (girl friends weight fluctates between 140-180 dhe looks great either way looks no where near her weight)

Check out this Step by Step by Cardio Coach

What I like is that you get a full description of the various zones and then the next step is a tiny calculator that will show your heart rate in one of the zones.

You can pick up a nice heart rate monitor at Target for $50 that will work just fine.  Heart rate zone training works well to lose quite a lot of fat in a short amount of time.

The part of the question that was asked that interest me is the "loose skin"
I have a friend that started working out with me and instead of my 2 days cardio he is doing 4 because he is losing weight and i don't really need to.  The problem he is already noticing is the loose skin.  From my understanding he can mainly only fill that up with muscle, right?
or is there a way to tighten the skin without surgery?  Or does it eventually tighten up on its own?
