Oatmeal a meal? - Tuesday, March 31, 2009 12:48 PM ( #1 )
I try to have at least 6 meals throughout the day, but I am not sure if I should count my 1 cup of oatmeal every morning as a meal.

Meals to me are chicke and brown rice or a chicken taco, or a chicken salad. But I have 1 cup of oatmeal everyday with breakfast and a side of a protein shake. Is this considered a meal that I should add within my 6 meals a day? Or is it somewhat of a little snack?

oatMEAL...theres your answer!

a meal is anything you put together, trying to balance it as best or to tailor to your specific needs and carb/prot/fat ratios.

its fine as a meal, you can add other things to it as well.

I don't think any meal is complete unless it has a fruit or veggie with it.

I used to do just a cup of oatmeal for breakfast w/ protein too.  Try putting your protein in your oatmeal, it's pretty good.

Oatmeal can be doctored up nicely. I add protein powder, almonds, raisins, a little butter and brown sugar.

My breakfast at college while i was bulking was Protein powder, oats (not cooked) milk and peanut butter all mixed up in a bowl. not bad stuff

Every morning I eat oatmeal w/raisens a little milk mixed in and two scoops of a weight gainer protein.

jw does what kind of oatmeal does everyone eat... like do you eat the little bagged kind where you microwave it or do you boil your water and make the real oats????

I eat the kind you boil up in the water, but always have the quick microwave stuff in the house due to thats what my wife eats. So if I run low I might go with that crap if I need.

i eat the oats you have to boil in water. Im not a big fan of the packaged because of all the "other stuff" that is in there. But thats just me, i obsess about stuff like that for no good reason. lol

that's a meal dude.  as others suggested, consider adding a banana or something.  that's pretty much what marc does, but he also adds EFAs..

I had PB, dried cranberries, sliced almonds, honey and half a banana

I think if you are getting a good amount of fruits and veggies with 4 out of 6 meals a day you are doing fine. Of course more never hurts.
