OK Need Help
-
Thursday, October 19, 2006 1:41 AM
Hello, I'm 14 years old and I weigh 180 pounds and I really want to loose weight! I've used the calorie calculator and it says for weight lose times 12 by your body weight and then subtract 550 calories from that amount.... Sooo... 12 x 180 = 2160 2160 - 550 = 1610 So if I do exercise each day and consume 0-1610 calories I will loose weight? Please tell me/help me since I really want to loose weight!

well.. yes you will lose weight if you do cardiovascular excersise every day and you have the right amount of calorie intake even for a cutting diet 1610 seems really low for ur weight, but if its right you dont eat 0-1610 calories you eat 1610 calories or in close proximity. cheers, and goodluck losing weight mate.

no!!! it's not enough calories, how did you work out 2160 calories? that's about for someone whose weight is around 100lbs, so recalculate it.

Bobby_2323: Hey what's up bud. To lose weight you need to do cardio up to 3-4 times a week. I would gradually increase intensity and amount of time invovled although I wouldn't go more then 40 minutes. Are interested in sports perhaps? Theres another option if you find cardio boring. Now on to diet, you want drop your calories 200 a day so that you take it nice and easy so that you don't develop serious cravings and tend to over eat the bad stuff. In terms of diet, I'd advise you to do the following. First, gradually eliminate all your simple carbs and sugars - alcohol, sugar, sweets, bread, products made with flour, white rice, white potatoes, white pasta, tortillas, etc. If you are hungry, replace these foods with larger servings of protein, vegetables, or carbs that are low on the glycemic index like barley, beans, and sweet potatoes. Just doing this may take off all the 21 pounds you want to lose. Weigh yourself once a week. Only if your weight loss stops for 2 weeks, continue to the next step. Next step, cease eating any carbs that are high on the glycemic index and move to eating cards that are low on the glycemic index. I would avoid fruit juices. They are loaded with simple sugars. You can eat a moderate amount of fruit but stay away from the juices. Water, iced tea, milk, and maybe one diet soda a day would be what I would recommend for drinks. If you want have once cheat meal once a week so that you can keep yourself sane. hope this helps bud.

Try this calorie calculator - http://www.freedomfly.net/Documents/calorie_calculator.xls I punched in 180lbs and age 14 [thats young] and it came out with a minimum of 2232 for maintenance for someone who is very inactive and 2800 for someone who is moderately active. So your ideas on calories seem way too low to me. You need to start with a sensible daily intake of calories to establish what your maintenance level is. I am also anxious that if you go too low on calories at your age you may affect your natural growth and develpment from a 14yr old to a man!
