No idea where to start
-
Thursday, May 15, 2008 10:27 AM
I just joined the local gym, and i want to start bodybuilding, im already overweight and pretty out of shape at 6ft/235lbs so i dont see any need to bulk up. Ive read so much on so many different sites about starting out..and everyone says something different. Should i build up some endurance with cardio and trim off some of this weight first, then jump into body building or just start off with weights? Im also lost on what kind of routine i should start with, and what kind of diet i should be on...im a picky eater, but ill do what i have to. any suggestions would be appreciated.

you need a clean diet first off. clean meats. low fat. lots of green stuff. after you get the proper fuel in your body, start trimming that fat. cardio. i can't give you much more advice than that. just minimize calories. eat the right food, and do cardio quite often, don't MISS A WORKOUT day. if you are diligent in the things i listed above you'll reap the benefits you desire
Pumping the iron, moving the lead. I hope all the attention I get doesn't go to my head.

Ive already started on the diet, about a week ago. I was thinking i should focus on getting my weight down through cardio first. What should be my target weight, and how long should i be on this diet before i start lifting?

it's ok to lift while on a minimal calorie diet. not the BEST thing to do.. but it's not gonna hurt you. just make sure you get enough protein. as far as a target weight?? you mentioned that you were high BF%.. so maybe go for a target range as far as body fat goes. also.. make your goals reasonably achievable. yes, it's good to have big huge goals, but it may be more of a long-term goal if you make it a HUGE change that will take a while. know what i mean?
