Newbie looking for some good advice.

Hi there. My Name is Matt and I'm 20 years old. I've always been somewhat overweight. A few years ago I got all the way up to 260lbs, and decided to diet. Although it was one of the stupidest things I could have done. I starved myself and did nothing but smoke cigarettes to suppress my appetite and drink lots of water. I ended up dropping down to 180. It worked, and I wasn't complaining. I am 6'2 and I have since gotten back up to 200 and I'm looking to lose weight the right way. As of last Friday, I began speed walking/Jogging twice a day. Once in the morning, once at night, for anywhere from 27-40 minutes each time. Since, I have dropped 3 pounds and I feel I am on the right track to getting back in shape. My daily food intake is sketchy. Nothing is too planned out. I usually wake up and have some fruit/vegetables, toast with jam, occasionally some eggs, etc. After breakfast I will go and run for my 27-40 minutes. I return and consume 23g of EAS - 100% Whey Protein. Throughout the rest of the day I have small snacks of fruit/vegetables, toast with jam, etc. As I said, nothing is set. There are some points where I won't eat for upwards of 12 hours. It's not that I'm starving myself, I just don't get hungry too often. A friend of mine who also posts on this site told me that I HAVE to have a decent calorie intake if I wish to see the results in reasonable time. So I'm looking for a little advice with that matter. The progress I'm making is fine. That's not the issue. I also would like to tone up, and was looking for some advice with that also. I've read that doing both cardio and weightlifting can prove to be better/faster in the long run. Also looking for some advice on that, such as what would be best. I'm looking mainly to drop down to my goal weight, and tone up(Abs, chest, shoulders, arms). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, and my apologies if this is in the wrong section, or if I left out some information or anything. -Matt

Forgot to mention, and can't see where to edit: I have the Protein shakes 3 times daily, as recommended by a friend, even when doing just cardio, which I also do at night. Twice daily.

Hi Matt, I am new to the forum myself. A few tips on weight loss that I have learnt over the years and that have work for me are as follows. Try do your morning exercise routing on an empty stomach, you tend to burn more fat that way. Also try maintain a level of hunger but at the same time eat more regularly, this means your portions should be enough to get you by but small enough to keep you hungry. 3 meals a day won’t cut it, try fit snacks in between your main meals. What you eat though is the main factor, a balance of clean protein and carbs is essential. Depending on your own body type you need to balance this intake. I found the best way for me to get this right was by talking to a nutritionist, they took several factors into account when giving me advise on what, when and how much to eat and tailored it for my specific goals. Well thats my 2 cents Cheers Ryan
