New to this whole... working out thing..

So yeah, I am new to this whole working out thing. I mean dont get me wrong, Ive worked out before.. But it was either when I was in high school in football (they told me what to do pretty much) or when I was in Afghanistan working out with some buddies over there (they already had routines) Now that I have been back from Afghanistan for about 8 months now Im not really happy with the way I look and feel. Working out was a great thing for me while I was over there and would like to get into it again. I have read the forums in dieting and got some good tips there. But when it comes to building my own workout plan I might need a little more help. Im not looking to get huge or anything but I would definitely like to get a lot stronger and maybe drop about 15 lbs. Right now Im 5'10 190 lbs. When Im sitting my gut really shows and I hate it. when I stand its not bad.. but its not something i would want to show off either. Im going to school (they have a small gym) and have lots of free time to workout. If someone could help me out putting together a routine it would be greatly appreciated. When I was in Afghanistan we did splits working out 6 days a week. Not sure if that would be best or not. Thoughts.. suggestions.. Thanks guys.

Starting strength. optional, add in some cardio after your workouts/off days. http://www.discussbodyb...to-training-m480790.aspx follow the link and scroll down to the routine section, the one outlined is starting strength. Run some searches online and gather some information about it. It is the best program for someone who is a novice, you will see great results from it.

stick to it until you stop gains in everything. dont fall into the mindset you have to change everything up every 4 weeks etc... "if it aint broke, dont fix it" meaning as long as your progressing in all or some things, just keep at it. You will eventually deload, and you could probably run it again or choose another novice friendly workout routine.

its really as simple as measuring out your food. It will be tedious at first, but just start measuring things that arent easily measured right out of the package/box etc... eating some almonds? count out how many are in 1 serving, banana? you can look that up online. Scrambled eggs? count how many eggs, add up the cals and voila. P butter? 2 tbsp's is usually 1 serving, just measure it out. it sucks at first, but you eventually learn to start eyeballing things within 1-2 weeks. Just grab a measuring cup etc and just stick to it for a few weeks.

OMG what is this pain I feel in my legs???? I couldnt even run today. Was dead after 3 exercises. So sad. Thanks for the routine. Not looking forward to the run/walk tomorrow. Prolly goin to go with a incline walk. I seem to burn about the same amount of calories as running on a flat surface but dont get tired as fast. Next week I want to throw in a couple more things but not sure what to throw in on what days. Does it really matter? Or can I just do pull ups crunches on Monday and rows and chin ups on Wed and lat raises and curls on Fri? Side note.. knee has been bothering me ever since it started getting cold. This was before I even started working out. Its not really pain but it doesnt feel good either. Any thoughts? See a Doctor? lol
