Hello, I'm 15 years old and I'm turning 16 soon. I was wondering if this is a good time for me to lift weights? I've heard "theories" where it can affect my growth sprout which I think is BS. I'm a basketball player and I want to lose some weight, I get tired pretty easily and I want to become faster and build more muscle especially in the calves/arms/abs. Should I just start with cardio and low calorie meals? I'd appreciate some advice and tips, Thanks!

EDIT: My point is that I don't want to be ripped and diesed, I want to build lean muscle so I can run faster.

it depends on how developed you are. Lifting weights actually can do things to your body if you're not fully developed. Luckily, I was when I started lifting weights.

To lose weight and build lean muscle, you're going to want to do a few things.
1. Eat your body weight x 10 or 15 in calories (if you weight 100 pounds, get 1000-1500 calories a day)
2. CARDIO CARDIO CARDIO. best way to burn fat
3. When you are lifting weights, do more reps of less weight.  If you do alot of weight, and less reps, it's build more bulky muscle.  If you do alot of reps with a lesser amount of weight, it builds lean muscle.
4. Consider buying whey protein or "muscle milk". that will help muscle growht too.

goodluck

you CAN do both at the same time.  there are certain foods you can eat that will help you burn fat and speed up metabolism...

but the safest, and best bet is to do a lot of cardio and lift weights moderately.  Then, after you have lost all the fat that you want to lose, and you are at the weight you want to be at, then start lifting alot
