Size means nothing when it comes to putting on muscle. Unless you've got some medical problem preventing it, there are three simple rules you can follow that will put muscle on any frame. 1- EAT. Muscle isn't built from thin air, it's built from the nutrients contained in food. This is why you need to find out how many calories a day you'll need in order to build muscle- You'll be eating a lot, five or six meals a day, healthy foods. Check out this link. http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/What_the_hell_is_a_calorie_anyway/m_135283/tm.htm 2- TRAIN. Pick a routine that works ALL your muscle groups- If you want to get bigger, you're going to need to work your legs, your back, your shoulders, everything- But make sure you give each muscle group enough attention. This is part of the reason why most of us work only one or two different muscle groups a day, with three or four exercises per muscle group. 3- REST. This is just as important as the other two, but many beginners seem to want to overlook it- Most people seem to think that more is better, but you have to keep in mind that muscle builds while the body is resting, not when you're in the gym- And it takes more than a couple of days for muscle to really recover and rebuild from a good workout. You might be tempted to try and work out your chest or arms, or whatever your favorite muscle might be every day, or every other day, but it won't really get you anywhere- If you don't let that muscle rest, it can't build. That's why you need to make sure your routine has you working each muscle group only once or twice a week at the most. Hope this helps.

you can build muscle on shoulders but you cannot have your bones grow making you look wider

You're probably not done growing yet- But even if you have skinny shoulders, you can still build larger ones. The bones won't grow any more once you're done growing, but the muscles of the shoulder can still grow. Big shoulders or not, you'd still have to exercise them to get the best results. It's always best to work every muscle group, they're usually broken down like this- Chest Back Legs Shoulders Biceps Triceps abs forearms
