I'm 20 years old...6'3 180 with very little muscle...my arms are skinny and I have bad love handles and a flabby stomach. My dilemma is this...I want to gain muscle obviously, but I also want to lose the fat. I look like a typical skinny kid with a shirt on, but when I take my shirt off I look like a joke. Is here a workout program where I could both gain muscle and lose the fat or should i concentrate on one at a time. I dont want to be running and losing all the muscle Im working so hard to get. Also, is basketball a good substitute for running? I love basketball and am motivated to play it, but we only play half court games no full court running. Thanks

Bulk then cut. Doing both at the same time is very ineffecient.

However with that said, b-ball is a good way to do both. Although it is inefficent you do condition your muscles as well as getting a great cardio workout. Especially if you play hard.

If you cant play full court then play Tip. Tip is a great game that simulates a full court game. Plus the game can go on for a very long time. I played the other day and it took an hour and a half for one game.

for supplements, stick to a good whey protein. Take it an hour before playing and immediatly after. Creatine will help some as well.

Im kind of the in the same boat...I want to get cut, but I don't have much muscle to begin with. Should I stick to free weights or machines if I'm just starting out? Also what kind of diet do you reccomend? Thanks

You guys are perfect candidates for a program called Optimum Anabolics. I am not a spokesperson or in any way affiliated other than I am on the program. I have attained results unlike any from anything else I have ever done and I have been doing this for half of my 32 year life. The site Admin, mda1125, will tell you the same thing as he is on the program as well. It requires a great deal of effort and committment, but the kind of changes you are talking about will necessitate that kind of input anyway. If you have any questions you can refer to my thread in the Online Training Journal section or you can also look at mda1125's review. I also suggest the BFFM program by Tom Venuto for great info as well.
