Need help to get into shape for military

I'm 17 years old and planning on going into the military after graduation which is about six months away. I currently weigh about 140 and am 5'5" I have an active lifestyle and run track every day. My eating habits are rather erratic like my schedule. I need a plan to get into shape by the summer, both strength and running endurance. Also I have no idea what I should be eating.

Kathryn: Welcome to the site. I hope we can offer you the help and encouragement you seek. I'm glad to know you have six months before graduation. When you enter the service, your boot camp will be tough, but if you are conditioned, you will do fine. Do crunches for your abs, do pushups for strength, do pullups for strength and continue running as much as possible. Men and women are put through daily PT, or Physical Training, which is always a heavy dose of crunches, pushups, pullups and plenty of running. So if you focus on those things, you will do well. As for diet, lay off the junk food, drink plenty of water, eat lots of protein and carbs. Keep the "fat" foods out of your diet. You should be able to lose enough weight to be comfortable and sure of yourself when you report. Keep your questions coming. I have a little experience with the military. Regards, Old Navy

Regards, Old Navy Well put Old Navy, I'd like to add the mental part. Being 17 and about to graduate you may have a lot on your plate. My advice is to stay focused. Establish your priorities and goals and don't waiver...write out your work out plans and dieting habits good or bad. Review them weekly and watch yourself progress. I have learned that I can see results sooner on paper than I can in a mirror.
