NEED SOME INPUT... - Thursday, April 20, 2006 7:43 PM ( #1 )
Hey folks...  1st time posting here after reading ton's of posts.  I am desperately needing some feedback and would like to pick a few brains if I might....

I'm 44, 5'5", 155-160 lbs.  In the last 2 yrs. I have lost 160lbs.  (thats right... -160)  Started out in a size 29-30 and am currently in a 8-10.  I have serious knee issues (will be having a knee replacement this June).

I am really trying to tweak my eating/fitness regime.  Right now I work out 6-7 days a week.  Weight lifting is limited to 3x per week.  One day is Bi's/Tri's - another day is Shoulders/Legs and the last day is Chest/Back.  I do cardio everyday at least 1 hr.  On strickly cardio days I try to do 1 to 1 1/2 hrs.  I do crunches EVERYDAY.

Muscle tone is phenomenal ...  I have got very good cuts working... endurance is growing...Of course the scale is not really my friend right now... and yes I know all about muscle exchange.  I would really really like to get down another 20lbs...    I use Isopure Low carb protein powder.  I do other supplements such as Creatine, Glutamine, vitamins.  I try to keep my fat grams under 20 if I can... sometimes I peak around 30...  calories for the day are normally under 1300 although sometimes I get around 1500..  carbs are around 100-150.  I am eating every 3 hrs. and trying to focus on more carb dense meals early in the day and tapering off...  I hit a protein drink right before bed.  I avoid sugar like the plague and avoid overprocessed foods as well.  My good carbs are oatmeal, baked plain sweet potatoes...  I eat very well.  I eat low fat yogurt daily and also alot of chicken (grilled) and salads.  I do have my freshly ground flax as well.  I do have food allergies and cannot eat any type of seafood save for tuna occasionally.

Some folks say I am eating too much...some say too little...  I have tried going both directions and still get no results...  scale wise.

Before this post gets waaaay too long I will close.. I'm sure I have left out something...  but I'm not into writing a novella.  Basically my nutritionist says I am one of the best examples of how a person SHOULD eat.  Ok what gives...  I know that I should be able to get that scale to drop down...but it isn't budging...

I'm about ready to chuck the damned thing!...

any ideas???

You do hear a lot of conflicting advice on how much you should eat- More, less. The basic idea, as I'm sure you know, is that your body needs a certain number of calories per day in order to maintain it's current size- And your body will fight to do so. In order to lose fat, you need to find out what that number is, and cut a certain number of calories out. Cutting too many calories out will make your body think it's being starved, which means it'll try to hold on to as much fat as possible. Check out the nutrition forum for the post near the top called "Calculate expenditure." It'll show you how to figure out how many calories you should eat in order to lose fat-
You seem to really know your stuff though, and congrats on losing all that weight- I hope the info in there proves helpful.

how about telling what the mirror says, do you look like you need to tighten up and feel you need to lose some fat lbs?
