Yeah, same here. Every vegetarian I've met in person is so smug and talk like they're better than everyone, proud of themselves and it annoys me - except for a semi-close friend of mine, she's really nice, and smart, but she's also like, hardcore activist and doesn't really look after herself (she has iron-deficient anemia, I'm gonna buy her ****ing Nutrigrain for christmas :p)

A few thoughts: A vegetarian diet is just like the diet of someone who eats meat: you have to make GOOD choices on what you eat. Yes, if you try to live only off of steamed veggies, you're going to have problems. Yes, if you eliminate all fats from your diet, you're going to have problems. But, if you make good choices, with a well rounded diet, you're just fine. The other extreme has the same problem - if you only eat meat and fats, you're going to have problems. I've been a vegetarian for many many years, and am in extremely good health. Have had problems gaining weight, but that is a result of bad meal planning & not enough calorie intake, not because of a lack of meat. The article clearly was from the perspective of someone trying to debunk vegetarian arguments, as opposed to providing an objective commentary on the arguments. Its way too long to go through on a point-by-point basis, and I don't see any good reason to do so. On the self-righteousness of vegetarians, personally, I refuse to even talk about it with people, so that they don't think that I'm being self-righteous. Also - people who identify themselves as belonging to some sort of "moral high ground" group tend to be at least perceived as self righteous, the same labels can be applied to hardcore fitness & diet people, Christians, atheists, extremes of political parties, etc.

I think its very relative their origins......what was available. I don't think everyone can stay skinny on a mediterranian diet or asian diet......I think its relative to the persons ancestry. Those who grew up poor with no meats survived as vegs, those who were poor but rice or something else was abundant, they did with that and our bodies to some point are familiar with those foods to an extent. If your from Alberta, you eat nothing but beef and people in those parts grew up this way for years n years, regardless of mad cow or whatever...............my dad was partial to horse meat and got me into it as a kid, he was Italian from sicily but they fled the country when he was a young teen and they grew up in belgium......they like the horse meat there. But he still cooked a ton of traditional stuff from his parts. You can go to each city in italy and find their pasta sauce will vary from each other, again relative to availability in their area. We have the luxury to be vegan if we like now, but if you lived in a bush with a tribe of Indians hundreds of years ago, you ate buffulo or whatever the meat of the day was, and you at vegan too wen meat was not available..........based on survival our diets would prob not be as we choose them now. Hope that makes sense! Linda

also, there are those who do have adverse reaction and even allergy to foods, meats etc. Proteins are huge for allergies but I think that has to do with our evolution with technology, medecines, drugs we use in foods etc.......I choose not to eat most meats but I am deathly allergic to poultry and eggs, even feathers......There are many of us who would not have survived in the old days, but we are here now due to technology, medecine etc...........hate to admit it but in the old days if I was living in italy or portugal maybe I would have survived but looking at the upbringing I did live and the place I lived it, had it been hundreds of years ago, I would have died very young. There are a group of wolves in BC which eat fish, they live off fish. Til then, no one thought wolves would enter water......they also eat berries and veg too, another thing people have no idea and assume wolf/dog, meats..........so what we see today in our diets with meats, they are not meats which would haev survived had they been free.............in the old days when you hunted you got healthy and natural meats.....wild and free, not grown in a testtube so........I think the vegan thing is a reflection of where things have gone with meats.......in the old days when meats were handled differently, poeple farmed etc, it was different and in a sense I guess more acceptable thant now. Linda

^^ metabolic typing seems so interesting, it just sparks so many questions. At the same time i think its a trial and error thing, instead of looking in to our ancestors, It may point you in the right direction but may not give to exact road. At the same time when twisted said even when you figure out your metabolic type your body isn't gonna be like hehe heres 10 pounds muscle and you figured me out now i can stop all the non sense. On top of that as body builders we already have set ratiios that are "common rule" to follow. A high protein diet. But none the less still pretty interesting.
It is not the years in your life, but the life in your years.

I think diet manipulation is important, but not to any extreme. If I find I'm getting a tad too chubby, I'll cut my carbs down a little, and up my protein a little. Nothing major, it might alter one meal in my day.

twistedlink The cheapest and well known commodity in pretty much every country since 1000 BC and after has been bread, which is carbs, yet we find 95% of this forums population to be "carb sensitive" You are of course correct linda, in what you say, allergies etc do play a part, but i feel fads and misinformation make terrible consequences in people in terms of extreme diets in that fats are the enemy, then carbs are the enemy, then proteins going to shut down your kidneys and liver etc. I've always just gone through the "balanced diet", apart from a cycle idea i once sprouted, however it wasnt exactly extreme, not like what keto is. I just find it frustrating when many diet fads start off with humanities eating history, to find most fads say the complete opposite, keto lovers state we used to simply eat fatty meats. PETA vegans who thinks were scum state the exact opposite. Its just a bunch of misinformation flying around the place and now everyones worried about the slightest little thing. Just eat, and eat as healthy as you can, Live a little(treats), and live long(from healthy foods), best of both, balanced, and lovely. x2

yea.. eat healthy. whatever u get. does not actually matter what u eat for survival since the body will adapt in any case. In my nearby villages, the farmers eat Huge Bowls of just plain boiled rice soaked in water and watered down milk. they however eat meat during weekends or in some towns only during the festive seasons. also they get manage to get a little of boiled/fried veggies with every meal. Salt and sugar are very precious rations! They dont follow a macro-nutrient guide or anything, BUT still these guys can easily haul 100 kilo rice sacks into the trucks without any trouble and live quite long in the 80s -90s without much health concerns either. My very own grandpa, who was a farmer lived a healthy 94yrs of age. So IMO, ppl evolve around the environment. Not the other way around. Today we got NO Sh!ts and Animal PAK... etc to make us feel like beasts, but seriously, u gotta be kidding! this is not the way to be. Unless u r gonna compete or anything for money or ego, it would be a crime to feed the body with all sorts of processed sh!t. but then, that's my opinion. end of the line, it's gonna be u and ur mind/body.
