Question:

Are you familiar with the dietary supplement called MyoZene. Could or would you recommend this product. Thanks, Dan

Answer:

Dan,

From first looks it appears to be the standard carb + whey protein post-workout drink.

Normally you’d want to avoid simple sugars but in recent years, there’s been a lot of decent research showing the faster uptake of nutrients post-workout when simple sugars are added to these PWO (post-workout) drinks.

In this case, having those types of sugar isn’t bad unless you are diabetic or on a fat loss program where watching your intake of sugars is critical.

The main difference between MyoZene and other more traditional PWO drinks is that MyoZene has a ton of other stuff added to it.

Creatine
Glutamine
Leucine
KIC
Taurine
L-carnitine L-tartrate
misc. vitamins and minerals including vitamin C and vitamin E

Creatine has a lot of valid research behind it.  Glutamine doesn’t so much for the bodybuilder.  The amino acids are good.

Overall, you have to wonder if this combination really will work based on the costs involved.

Adding a PWO drink like this to a mass gaining program can be very beneficial!

But keep in mind, you can make your own shakes that have simple sugars and whey protein for a fraction of the costs.  Just something to consider.  People seem (including myself) like these pre-mixed PWO shakes because they have everything in them we want and are easy to mix up and make.  So we are paying for convenience.

Many people take these drinks immediately AFTER their workouts and before their next major meal.

You’d almost think that if you didn’t take a PWO shake, your gains would be somehow compromised.

Not true.  You can easily get the required nutrients you need from real foods sources or just a quick and easy shake.

Anyway Dan, I’ve not tried MyoZene myself but I am familiar with these type of PWO drinks.  If you aren’t worried about the cost and you like the taste, it looks to be a pretty standard all encompassing type of drink.

It won’t make or break your gains in the gym like they probably want you to believe but it certainly won’t hurt either to ensure your nutritional needs are being meet.  It’s up to you based on the cost and the benefits you may get from it.

It’s worth a try if you are looking for a good PWO type drink and have no real desire to dabble in making your own and buying bulk products.

What do you think of myozenes ad campaign that claims "30 pounds in 30 days". Is this possible or is this just another example of supplement compnaies making outrageous claims

Another bogus claim that cannot be backed up.

I didn't look but does the ad say how much of that 30 lbs is going to be muscle?  (I'm can guess 100% right).

While it might be a nice PWO product, it's still a post workout drink.  Not a magic pill that is going to build slabs of muscle on your overnight.

There was one pro bodybuilder (the name escapes me) who had such fantastic genetics he claimed he was building 1 lb of muscle per day!

True or not, keep it mind that is 1 guy out of millions of people on this planet who may have done it.  I say MAY have.

1 lb a day for the other 99.9999999% of us is NOT going to be muscle.

You'd be doing great to put on a 1 lb of muscle per week with minimal fat gains.

The best ad I've seen claiming ridicuolous gains was an ad-report for anator p-70 51 lbs of muscle in 42 days.

I just use whey, ricecakes after my workout.

The ad didn't specify muscle....it just said gain 30 pounds in 30 days.

But if the ad said gain 1 pound a week would people be lining up to buy it???

See that claim in itself is an open door to avoid fraud.

They didn't say 30 lbs of muscle in 30 days.

They said 30 lbs in 30 days.

What kind of claim is that?  Who wants to gain 30 lbs in 30 days only to find out 5 lb of that is lean muscle?

It is PERFECT because the consumer automatically assumes it's 30 lbs of muscle in 30 days.

If they ever were to file a lawsuit (just saying) they would be out of luck as the company never said anything about 30 lbs of muscle in 30 days.

Crap.  Total garbage.

The product may be a fine one but the marketing of it is your typical over the top hyped up supplement industry hoop-la.
