hey, i just joined, i have read throught all the top posts and the 12 FAQ thing, but thought this was worth a shot... when i was 18 i got my weights.. and i was around 15 stone ( 6 ft) thing is i played rugby have done since i was little, i have very wide shoulders and always passed my weight off as 'bulk' cos i didnt look fat in the slightest.. then with weights... it kinda went to 16, this was with normal eating, and running etc... i figured cool muscle growth... however i was starting to get a stomach... from doing the same as always... just with weights added then the annoyance.. i had to move up north... and it all went to hell within 6 months i had gained another stone of weight, and well my stomach area is a little 'bulgy' now i moved from parents house > out on my own with girlfriend. this has made my income drop tenfold. after rent etc every month i have less then £30 to myself, if that. so what im asking is for a little help... i am one of those people described in the posts, it gets genuinely depressing as hell putting in SO much effort and seeing nothing. i think i have a slowish metabolism.. pretty steady.. however, when i was working out with weights, i was seeing ALOT of muscle growth in my arms etc, within weeks... so the dilemma. something either very cheap or free. i work nights so i have ALL day to myself to do stuff... i really am ready and willing... i just need a little help... i want the body i used to have basically.. so tell me where to start because i am clueless, my endurance is shot now aswell. i was going to try and go on fartlek runs?? any idea how useful they are? but i need to drop some weight while gaining muscle, i know the 2 shouldnt be done together, and i should focus on one, but i need to focus on both at least until i have shifted a fair few lbs... Current Weight : 17.6 stone. Height : 6 ft 1 Build : heavy. very large frame.

I have and have had the same problem as you. I'm 6ft tall and weight right now 224 pounds, and wear a 36 waist. I can gain muscle easily and if you look at me I hold my weight really well and people usually think I weigh no more then 200 pounds, because I do not look heavey, I look in real proportion. I tried the Max out program that they have here for 5 months and had alot of results, in strength. For example, when I started I could only preacher curl 20 lbs and squat 50lbs, real sad. Now I'm curling 85 lbs regualry and max at 105ish, and can squat easily 300 pounds, but didn't have alot of visible results. I put on some weight and filled my chest and back out so I looked bigger but not real big. For one month I tried this routine that most people here do not agree with, but it worked really well for me and since you seem similar to me, I'll let you have it. Its a 6 day swing- 1- Bi/tri 3 exercises 4 sets 6-8 rep range. This day I used all dumbells. 2- Chest/Back same as above 3- Shoulders/legs/traps- same as above 4-Bi/tri 3 sets 4-6 reps usiing isolation routine 5-chest/back 3 set, 4-6 rep using barbell and iso machines 6- shoulder/trap/legs 3 sets 4-6 reps all iso machines 4 days a week I ran in the morning and I did this routine right before night school in early evening. You would have to eat alot...ALOT of food, 6 small meals. I did this for 3 weeks and got alot of visible result, measured gains in both stregth and size, but after 3 weeks or so, this becomes over training and you will eat your muscle away. I lost a few pounds, and went down a pant size, but I needed to sleep 9 hours a nite atleast. It was a good change and really shocked everything and continue the max out routine and eating 4 not as small meals and drinking water and running I have kept the size and am loosing about 1-2 pounds aweek. I never understood how important diet was until I read the nutirtion forum and made changes. The diet is probally more important then routine, because the one thing everyone here will agree with is, as long as your doing something, you will get results.
