My tendon - Friday, April 15, 2005 8:10 PM ( #1 )
My tendon on my left leg thats used to push your foot down. Hurts when I push my foot down as far as I can. Is it because of me dunking and when I do it I push down my foot as fast as possible ? will it strengthen overtime ? any thing I can do for it ?

Andy, what tendon are you talking about? The Achilles tendon (heel)? Or is it the one on the bottom of your foot?

You can add some strength and increase the flexibility, which will help with the jumps. But keep in mind that the strength you get to jump does not come from the heel, it comes from your legs (quads and calfs). The Achilles just allows for the proper execution of the move.

What to do: simple stretching and exercises can be found on this website http://www.achillestendon.com/PreventingInjuries.html#Achilles%20Tendon%20Exercises%20and%20Stretches

also, don't try and overstretch cause if you are already having problems, overdoing it will only make it worse. Another thing you can try is a balance board. I saw this when I was in physical therapy for a back injury. At first I was like, right...this looks simple and I tried it out. NOT EASY! But it does get the job done. This link is for a place that sells some but you can search for other places if your health club or gym does not have one. I would have attached a pic of one but I could not figure out how

There's pushing and pulling tendons/muscle etc when you jump and extended your foot. Sometimes the bone that connects your foot to your ankle becomes jammed or stuck. The muscles get sore due to the extra stress. Sometimes if you gently tap your heel of your foot on the floor while sitting will loosen up the ankle.
