My Wife - Tuesday, January 13, 2004 3:13 PM ( #1 )
My wife gave birth 8 months ago and is having some problems loosing the weight. She just had her cholestrol tested and her good cholestrol is 36, while the bad is 175. She doesnt eat poorly, as a matter of fact she eats healthy. She is also breast feeding as well, which i have been told can keep the weight on. What can she do to improve her cholestrol and lose the weight while still breastfeeding?

Pregnancy and Cholesterol

One of the proofs of the hypothesis that elevated sex hormones result in high cholesterol is pregnancy. Women routinely have cholesterol levels in the 300 range during pregnancy as their body revs up to make extra sex steroids to make the child. -PathMedical

Doesn't sound like 175 is all that high considering. What did the DR say? Now the article talks about during pregnancy, but maybe there's some length of time after due to these hormonal issues?

He said her good or hdl is too low and the bad or ldl is too high. She had to have other tests to see if there were other problems. if so then she would have to take some meds. The problem with that is the meds do a number on the liver. Im not sure if he inquired about the breatsfeeding though. I read that article and that could be a possible reason.
