My Supplement Stack
-
Tuesday, August 26, 2008 8:42 PM
I get enough questions about what supplements I'm currently taking. While I don't take a lot, there are times when I do and recovery is at an all time premium. So I busted out the notepaper and I wrote down everything that I'm taking besides a lot of real foods. Normally, it's pretty much the multi-vitamin, glucosamine, Udo's Oil and protein only post-workout and sometimes mixed in with Oats at breakfast. August 2008 Supplementation Schedule:Breakfast: 1 Multi-vitamin 1 Glucosamine 1 Beta-Glucan 1 Udo's Oil 3-6-9 2 Beta-Alinine Lunch: Omega-3 soft chew 2 Beta-Alinine Pre-Workout: Muscle Milk Lite During Workout: Champion Amino Shooters w/ 5g of Creatine 2 Beta-Alanine Post-Workout: Cytomax (16 oz) 16 g of whey protein MIXED WITH 5 g of hydrolyzed whey protein isolate Dinner: 1 Multi-vitamin 1 Glucosamine 1 Omega-3 soft chew Before Bed: ZMA Notes: Beta- Alinine Supplementation Changes (is this just another loading phase like Creatine? Maybe.. who knows) Week 1 through 4 take two caplets 3 times per day (every 4 to 6 hours). Week 5 and beyond – take one caplet 3 times per day (every 4 to 6 hours)

I've noticed Beta-Alanine popping up alot lately. Why exactly do you take it, and would you recommend it to anyone? Seems like almost every amino acid has been isolated and sold as the new miracle supp.

From early research by the ISSN, it seems to show positive effects in boosting endurance thru a buffering of lactic acid build-up... So more reps... less burn out early on. I've felt like my workouts at 20 minutes at a high intensity were able to be sustained to around 40 minutes. Who knows.. too early to tell to be honest. Totally experimentation. Would I recommend it? No. As a professional I tend not to recommend many supplements as I don't know the person reading and their individual tolerance to stuff. Nor do I know their economic situation. $25 to some is nothing. To others it is a lot of money. So no, I'm taking it for me. Messing around. True.. what hasn't been sold as a miracle supplement? I did lots of NO2 supplements but the pump wasn't worth it and it was a total waste for me. When the fun wears out, my interest level does too. Funny Tommy...
