My First Competition : Photos and Results - Friday, April 03, 2009 2:28 PM ( #1 )
I already posted this stuff in my journal, but I figured it would be appropriate here too.

SPF Arkansas State Powerlifting and Benchpress Competition
March 14, 2009

Height: 5'10"
BW: 179.4 Lbs.
-Class: 181
Age: 20
-Division: Junior Class

Squat
Round 1: 375
Round 2: 400
Round 3: 430 (pic attached)
Round 4: 445 (failed)

Bench
Round 1: 250
Round 2: 275 (pic attached)
Round 3: 280 (failed)

Deadlift
Round 1: 465
Round 2: 490 (pic attached)
Round 3: 510 (Got it, but hitched the last 4-5 inches so I got red-lighted: didn't get credit for it)

I may be going to nationals this May in either Nashville or Memphis (can't remember) and competing again at 181. My goals for that comp will be:
Squat: 460-475
Bench: 290-300
Deadlift: 525-550

Starting today I changed up my routine quite a bit... still lifting heavy but utilizing chains and negatives, etc. now. I know those goals are pretty high considering the short time frame, but I am going to push myself hard!

Comments/tips are welcome!

honestly... I dont know! it's what the front judge told me as I was walking off. it may mean leaning back too much and jerking up the leg? All i know is next time i'm going to smoothly pull 510 up on seconds round ; )

hitching is when you notice your not going to get it and then you start to "shrug" or "jerk" it up in little motions.  easy to show, hard to explain.

Awsome work again!!

To be more clear, hitching is leaning back and dragging or resting the bar up or on your thighs to get the bar up.  It is ok in strongman but not for powerlifting.

And of course, great job toolman

Congratulations man, nice numbers. I'm curious though. How did you place? Reason i ask is I'll also be competing in the near future and don't know what kinda numbers to be shooting for. I'll also be under 181 class

Well there are several different foundations that host competitions. In the one I entered in to, Southern Powerlifting Federation, I set records at the state level on bench and squat, nationally none. I was the only 181 pound junior (age 20) at the comp so i cant really compare myself to anyone. I turn 21 this summer, so i will be up against all men instead of just 20 year olds like now.

I'm in the same boat. I'm not 21 until this November and I'm sure I'll compete at least once before then so I was just wondering. I'm gonna try staying under 181 for as long as i can. Do you know what kind of Numbers your up against when you hit 21? idk if you've heard or seen. Just trying to get an idea

Arkansas State Records - SPF
http://southernpowerlifting.com/record.php?id=45

SPF National and World Records
http://southernpowerlifting.com/record.php?id=40

keep in mind that those just within SPF; there are numerous other powerlifting federations. Powerliftingwatch.com is a good site to use to compare all the organizational records

Damn man, lol 181 seems to be on of the toughest classes in comparison to the others. Atleast pound for pound. and i thought there was a 198 class. 181 to 220??!! wow. But thanks alot though. That helps.

there is a 198... the SPF just doesnt have any 198 rankings in whichever division you were looking that was lacking them (junior probably)
