Muscle Milk vs Muscle Mil Light - Thursday, December 14, 2006 9:41 PM
I kept away from Muscle Milk for a while because someone told me once it gave him acne. Ever since I started taking fish oil that hasn't really been a concern for me anymore and I realized milk products have no effect on me, I drink two shakes a day and I'm fine.

I tried a one of those little boxes of banana creme muscle milk and damn... really good.

So I'm finally going to pick up a tub of it. But here's my question, I noticed normal muscle milk has "EndoCreatine" and it stimulates natural creatine production. But is this missing from the light version?
Is muscle milk really something that will give you better gains, considering I allready use Syntha-6 for casein?

I belive Muscle Milk Light just contains less fat and calories then the original.

I would say Micellar Matrix, Ultra Peptide, EvoPro or Sustain would be the best Casein products. Reason being is they all taste good AND Casein is the 1st ingredient on the label. Syntha 6 has WPC which I am sure 99.9% of people here already have a whey protein.

Muscle Milk Light contains quite fewer calories resulting from half the fat, and 7g less protein per serving. It also has quite a bit less sodium. To answer your first question, it does not contain glycocyamine, the creatine precursor found in Muscle Milk. It was removed for the light version due to the debate regarding glycocyamine and increased homocysteine levels which may or may not lead to heart problems. Personally, I don't feel the glycocyamine found in Muscle Milk will prove a problem as it is coupled with betaine anhydrous which is believed to counteract the increased homocysteine levels caused by glycocyamine.

So the question comes down to your goals I suppose. The extra protein, and a little extra fat may be exactly what you want to make up those extra calories during a bulking phase where I found MM very useful. However, if you're cutting, you may want to consider MM Light or one of the other alternatives coulaid has suggested above. This is just a suggestion; many people use one or the other regardless and have great gains. You'll never know for yourself until you've tried. I'm hoping to get my hands on some Ultra Peptide once I finish my tub of Syntha-6. All things considered (the higher content of whey concentrate which is preferable to whey isolate or caseins in certain respects coulaid =P), I have seen fairly good progress with it and minimal fat increases compared to either MM or MM Light.

Edit: If you are or are considering supplementing with creatine anyway, are the "Creatine Precursors" found in regular MM really worth their weight? I say 1... 2... 3... NOT!

Actually he said....

It was removed for the light version due to the debate regarding glycocyamine and increased homocysteine levels which may or may not lead to heart problems.

May or May not.. the whole GCC thing really started with a David Barr article that used studies to show how evil GCC could be.

Again, one person's opinion using valid studies to support their theory.

Most companies aren't pulling GCC because they believe it to be bad for you, they simply see no reason to fight and uphill battle with worried consumers.

Don't take what you read about GCC to be the holy road of supplement truths.  It's removed from Muscle Milk Light basically becuase the pros of using it (what are they again?) simply aren't worth any negative publicity.

The good part is, Cytosport responded quickly to basically and online consumer concern and simply removed that from their product.  Along with the fat and extra calories.

All in all, good move.

And more flavors are coming out!
