I was just wondering about what happens if you stop working out.

Say I stopped workouts all together for 1, or 2 weeks, would this have an effect on the muscles, i would understand that they would'nt grow like, but how long would you leave it before it declines???

Or if i wanted to lose muscle, how long would it take to lose it, or does it never go?

heres, big dog robboe's post earlier:

quote:

You may drop glycogen/water, and when you return to the gym, your neural pathways will have reset slightly on top of this but you'll add back anything you lose pretty quick.

Generally speaking, neural output can reduce within 1-2 weeks.

Actual muscle loss (although this is heavily dependant on your calories and protein without training mind you) about 2-4 weeks. Although this will differ between bodytypes.

basically, if you scheduled a week off and stuck to your diet (maybe reducing calories a little), you'd probably not lose any muscle at all (although you'd certainly "feel" like you did from the lack of endorphin release that comes mid/post-train and the lack of swelling the day after training, coupled with the loss of water/glycogen).
