Muscle Weakness - Saturday, April 01, 2006 12:33 PM ( #1 )
Hello.  I got injured when somebody ran into my shoulder from the side playing basketball.  It tore the muscle, and its been about a month now.  I have read all of the symptoms of a rotator cuff tear and I don't think it is one, neither does my Physical Therapist.  I actually sleep on that side in my sleep and i can put my arm through a whole range without pain.  However, the muscle is really weak right now.  I was wondering if the weakness is normal for not using the muscle for like a month or could there possibly be a rotator cuff tear that has no pain?  I don't think the muscle is completely healed, so just wondering if the weakness is normal.  Ex: I can only lift 5 pounds on shoulder raises and afterwards the muscle is REALLY weak.  Thank you.

It is normal.  you have to go through a rehab period to bring it back on line...when it is healed.
