Muscle Soreness - Thursday, April 16, 2009 12:01 AM ( #1 )
I am looking for a supplement that can help me with muscle soreness and shorten my recovery time after an intense leg or lower back workout. What can you'll recommend?

I get muscle soreness all the time, can't seem to avoid it. I find whey after working out helps slightly.

Hmm, lower your volume.  I only get really sore when I have relatively high volume of training, my current workout doesn't make me that sore at all which is good since I am hitting everything twice a week whereas my old one that made me sore was essentially once per week.

I get sore when I do something I'm not used to. I mix things around a lot, one week come in and do "2 x 15", the next "3 x 10", the next "3 x 5". I'm constantly changing things. So I get sore pretty often. But as you continue to train your athletic tolerance enhances so you don't get as sore anymore, usually.

Well I have recently put good mornings, squats, dead lifts in my routine and have more bench pressing so it has been killing me.

whey isolate, glutamine post workout and start up on creatine if thats in your best interest. I do legs once a week because of the intensity, im sore for 2 days, im just feelin like back to normal and its friday and i did legs wednesday night. What i'm gettin at is working the biggest muscles like back, legs and chest require more time to heal simply because of the size of them. biceps and triceps feel good the next morning when using whey and glutamine 2-3 times daily

Thanks for the response guys. I should have said this, but I am currently taking whey and creatine.  I guess next time I get a little cash I will purchase some glutamine.

Tart cherry juice is apparently a good muscle pain reliver and perhaps preventer.  I can't seem to find it where I am, so I am going on heresay, but the source that I heard it from was reputable.
This is a pdf of some information.

I mean the feeling of being completely sore is a good feeling in the sense that you know you are working your muscles and shocking them for better growth and stamina, but I don't want to hurt when I'm trying to sit on the toilet

I agree I don't mind being sore, but I don't want it to last for more than a day and I wanna be able to walk without serious pain

yes your getting soar because your lifting harder when you do lift, but when bulking dont you think that hitting it once a week would be better, a better work out, and more heal time.?

Caffeine Cuts Post-workout Muscle Soreness
Delayed onset muscles soreness (DOMS) is muscle pain you feel during the days following an intense workout. DOMS can be particularly severe in untrained people. Researchers from the University of Georgia in Athens found that a caffeine supplement reduced muscle soreness in young women following electrical muscle stimulation. The women took 5 milligrams of caffeine per kilogram bodyweight at 24 and 48 hours after the muscle stimulation treatment. The researchers speculated that caffeine blocked the activity of a chemical called adenosine, which is released during inflammation in response to muscle injury. Caffeine relieved post-exercise muscle soreness better than acetaminophen (Tylenol) and naproxen (Aleve). This study used untrained women as subjects so the results may not apply to trained bodybuilders or people who consume high amounts of caffeine regularly. In an earlier study, researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign showed that caffeine reduced leg pain in women during cycling exercise. (Journal of Pain, in-press, published online Dec. 2006; Medicine Science Sports Exercise, 38: 598-604, 2006)

interesting about the caffeine.  i guess that's one of the perks of drinking so damn much coffee and green tea.

My teeth are already a bit stained from smoking, so I figure I'll probably have to have them whitened someday anyway.  I never really liked green tea until I had it shoved in my face every day living in Japan.  Eventually I got used to it and now quite like it, but it's definitely no substitute for coffee.  Even if I swear off caffeine, I'll probably still drink decaf.  Coffee breath is pretty bad though, huh?  I chew a lot of gum..
