I am a beginner at this stuff and my education in nutrition is purely based on what I could find through the internet (thus this site!). My goal is to lower my body fat percentage. I am:

212llbs
21% body fat (estimation from site, probably no where near accurate)
I recently bought a protein powder, because I read somewhere that it is good for any goal because it helps with muscles or something. I am also staying away from carbs and fats. What I want to know is am I doing the right thing here? is there a crucial thing I am missing? How much protein should I take in a day assuming I just want to lose fat?
Any feedback will be very helpful.
