ORIGINAL: TheSilverFox bulking huh? have fun with that. getcha some bcaa's if you can afford them. can't hurt you at all. we're so reversed in terms of benching/squatting. i'm stalling at 185 for 5 reps on squats, but can bust out 230 for 5 reps on benchpress no problem, while YOU on the other hand, are squatting 220 for reps, and then seem to almost be stalling with 165 on benchpress. sometimes i wonder what it would feel like to be able to squat 220 for reps like you do. and i'm sure you wonder what it's like to have a real strong chest like i do some days. one of these days.. we need to swap bodies for a day and lift just to see what it's like hahaha, well i'm sure you would want to find someone a lot stronger than my self to lift as for a day, hahaha. and yes, i would love just to throw on 2 plates and start benching. it would be grand... one day! hell, i've only been really lifting for a year and sort of know what i'm doing for about 8 months and nowhere close to knowing a lot.

1 year? wow.. that's great then for where you're at. sounds like you're close to 200 lbs for a 1 rep max on bench. i've only been training legs since january of 08, so for 6 months, i think i'm doing ok on squats. still needs a LOT of work though. IMO.. squats are a MUCH more technical exercise compared to flatbench. don't get me wrong, there's lots of things you have to understand about form when considering both exercises.. but squats require MORE things to think about

Lol yea Im the same as Mobley. I mean I can squat a lot for my weight and my quads are much bigger then when I first started lifting (they looked like toothpicks) but my chest always lags behind. It seems for every 3 inches I get on my legs I get like a 1/2 inch on my chest.
Currently Bulking Big Time: Started 9-7 @ 147 lbs Goal - To not stop bulking until spring and gain at least 3 lbs a month

thanks! I used to wrestle in highschool and what not and i've always been kinda strong even for being pretty skinny. 205 is what i will be attempting next time I max. last time i did maxes i was more focused on the 5 rep and then did my max. i failed on 205 than 200 i think, but it was after the 185x5. i think i can get 205. I've never had a strong chest or tries. it's moving along I guess.

the next time you max out mobley.. don't do 5 reps on 185 and attempt 205. rather.. do a few reps with light weight (95 pounds.. or whatever), then 2 reps of 135. 1 rep of 155. 1 rep of 185, and just keep goint up (you can skip the 155 pound mark if you really want to). the whole point is to not wear yourself out right away. and take big breaks, 3 to 5 minutes usually works nicely for me while matt does his thing on maxing day.

Tuesday - A - 5's - 7/22/08 Squat - 230 3x5 Bench - 170 3x5 (a little help on last rep) Deadlift - 265 1x5 Pullups - bw, 12, (8 and 4) hmmm, well i think i have reached the point where i'm going to not be able to increase on these 3 lifts. i was struggling with squats today. it could be the weight or just a bad day not sure. I think i will be best off to take the rest of the week off and max next week and start over new with this routine.

How long have you been on the routine? Have you tried to band out an extra rep or add some slow eccentrics?
5'6" 125/ Bench: 115 / Front squat: 90 / Deadlift: 205 / Pullups: 10

well actually this is my last week of my HST round, so me starting to fail really is on board with what was supposed to happen. I do have 1 more workout with it and i'll go ahead and do it. This will be the 3rd week of this routine. right now my plan is to finish this week off, first of next week to get my maxes and then start a short 2 1/2 weeks of rippetoes routine until i go on vacation. Would anybody recommend anything that could work better?

it is my 2nd. I cut for both, so i doubt i gained a lot per se. I took measurments before i started my 2nd round so thats what i'll have to use to base it off. However, it sure doesnt look like i lost any muscle and i slimmed back up pretty good. i'll proably take some measurments at somepoint this week, max next and continue rippetoes routine until i leave the states for a couple of weeks.
