What would the consequences be if one would break this rule ?

Actually there are ideal times for eating considering your body type. For example, i do know that ideally, ectomorphs should eat every two hours. Ideally problably meaning the minimum that's best for the body because like david said it's problably unhealthy (To put it lightly) to violate eating rules.
Edit: I'd still do some research on it though.

well you should be eating when you are getting hungry, if you are on a good diet and eat correctly you will get hungry around 2-3 hours after each meal.  Eating sooner than this isnt going to be terrible but you may not get all the benefits of the food.  AKA for example you can only absorb so much protein per sitting and eating again shortly after will just have your body pass the excess protein and not absorb it for the second meal.

I would agree that 2 would be the minimum time between meals. But if you're hungry before that, don't be afraid to eat.

there is no minimum time. it all depends on your idea of a meal "size"

someone can have very, very, very small "meals" every 5 minutes and it'd still be good.  (i mean, small, bite size meals)

it's all about WHAT you're eating, not so much WHEN you're eating.

although, i will say i do eat every 3-4 hours.

Depends on what you're eating.

If you just had a protein drink, then 90 minutes would be the minimum you should wait before eating again.

If you had a meal of solids, then 120 minutes should be the minimum.

Reason being, it takes longer for your body to digest solid foods than it does for pre-digested whey.

Don't eat "when you're hungry", unless it's vegetables or something. Eating 4-6 meals a day, clean, will rev your metabolism and you could be hungry all day. Lots of pro BBers have this problem, and they satisfy it by snacking on vegetables and/or guzzling water.

The rest of the world eats "when they're hungry"... BOREDOM can make you feel "hungry", and that's why America is so freakin' overweight. Remember that.

true.

a ton of people mistake huger for thirst.  if you feel hungry, go drink alot of water and wait 20 minutes.  if you're still hungry, eat something

i dont know about minimum times between meals, but maxium i do i 3 hours. i think it takes around 1 hour to digest your food out of your stomach (not complete digestion). so id say between an hour and an hour and half.

but i dont even get hungry eating every 3 hours, so id say your not eating enough in each "portion/meal"
