Mild knee pain - Tuesday, November 03, 2009 3:15 PM ( #1 )
This is a little tricky, I have knee pain...but it doesnt bother me 95% of the time.

Its only one knee, and the pain only happens when I squat down fully to allow my calves to touch the back of my hamstrings/ass.

Its painful at first but as I stretch and stay in that position I can eventually allow it to go away for the time being. I can move side to side, jump, Barbell squat, deadlift, and run pain free.

I will add, when I sprint I do get some slight pain very underlying but nothing to even complain about.

Im thinking its just an injury that is not getting any chance to heal due to my constant weight training/running. But other then that I really have no idea, inflamation? hyperextension injury? twisted it? ligament injury? cartilage?

Its not something I am worried about right now, it doesnt affect my lifting and cardio its not even enough pain for me to be lightly discomfort, but it is starting to bother me because I cant seem to squat down like I said without it hurting at first.

Was wondering if anyone here has experienced anything like this? or may know of some suggestions for me to look into?

The knee is not meant to be loaded and at that angle at the same time.  When squatting the knees should not pass your feet.  There is never a need to go past parallel.

I was gonna say, is it really necessary to go that deep?
If you have sizeable calves and hammies, wouldn't that muscle mass create shear at the knee joint as those muscles squish together?

no no, perhaps I worded that wrong.

When I am squating down, calves touching hammys, there is no weight. Im not in the gym. Like if im squating down to sit on the floor, or just trying to stretch for example.

When I squat in the gym I am going just passed parallel.

My other knee does not have this pain, its just my left knee.

Even without added weight, the knee is still loaded.  If you are worried, see a doctor and maybe a physiotherapist for input.  You may have flexibility issues or tendonitus or something that needs correcting.

I was thinking tendonitus too, but after playing football today both knee's are bothering me now, I can still run, cut, jump etc...but its a nagging pain...usually brought on in football when I cut hard numerous times over a long period of time (i.e.a game) so shock absorbtion I suppose is a big problem here.

I have been doing some reading and I may have runners knee. Brought on by many things, to name a few that may be the culprit here.

Muscular imbalance (weak quads, imbalance between hammys/quads, tight hammies/calves)...I wouldnt rule it out...but I dont think this is it. My hammys get tight pretty easily though.

Shoes, either wrong fit or worn...this could be the case, I tend to wear shoes for a long time and honestly I dont know what kinds of shoes I should wear.

Over reaching, they called it over training, but I know better. I have been feeling really fatigued and I do try to take on a lot with sprints, football heavy lifting and not too mention a calorie deficit diet for almost 2 months now.

Im going to deload after this next week, im probably going to drop the cardio this week and see how I feel maybe start light the week after and go from there. I will probably go buy me some new shoes while im at it, and get a proper pair too.

If that doesnt help, then I guess ill bite the bullet and go see a doc. I have insurance through my university now anyway, might as well use it if I have too.

Honestly im leaning towards over reaching and the sudden change to mostly incline/uphill sprinting, I think my knee's are just worn out.

Thanks for your input OH!
